Description Electrical Engineer – Cable & Raceway Design (Rail Infrastructure) Job Title: Electrical Installations Design Engineer Location: Toronto

Reports To: Electrical Design Manager / Project Engineering Lead

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Sr. Installation Engineer to join our team on the RSSOM project in Toronto, Ontario . This role will focus on the design and coordination of cableways design, cable routing and installation along the track and within technical rooms, ensuring compliance with system requirements and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil or electrical works within the railway engineering context and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Role Overview The Electrical Installations Design Engineer is responsible for the detailed design and coordination of electrical installation systems, including equipment layout, cable routing, conduit layouts, cable trays, and associated hardware for power, control, and communication circuits. This role ensures compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications while working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and constructible designs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed layouts for electrical installations, including cable trays, conduits, junction boxes, and terminations.
  • Design cable segregation and shielding strategies to minimize electromagnetic interference. Ensure compatibility between power, control, and communication systems in accordance with codes, standards and project plans.
  • Prepare installation drawings, cable schedules, and material specifications using AutoCAD/Revit.
  • Collaborate with civil, structural, and mechanical teams to integrate electrical installations within buildings and civil structures spatial constraints. Coordinate with building systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) to avoid clashes and ensure equipment accessibility and overall constructability.
  • Use BIM tools for clash detection and 3D modeling of raceway systems.
  • Ensure designs meet CSA, ESA, NFPA, local building codes and project requirements
  • Prepare documentation for regulatory approvals and inspections.
  • Provide technical guidance during installation and cable pulling activities.
  • Review as-built drawings and verify compliance with design intent.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license or immediate eligibility preferred.
  • 3–7 years of experience in electrical installation design for industrial, transit infrastructure or building systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Autodesk ACC, BlueBeam ReVu.
  • Strong knowledge of cable management systems principles, codes and installation practices.
  • Strong knowledge of EMI/EMC segregation principles and compatibility between power, control, and communication systems

Skills & Competencies Mandatory

  • Excellent spatial planning and coordination skills.
  • Strong understanding of cable derating, grouping, and fire protection requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple interfaces and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred

  • Experience with rail, transit, or large-scale commercial projects.
  • Familiarity with BIM clash detection and 3D modeling for raceway systems.
  • Knowledge of CSA certification and ESA inspections for electrical installations.
