Job Summary
The Service Branch Manager is responsible for the overall performance and success of the Sudbury Branch, including Fire Systems & Alarms, VFSS, Fire & Life Safety Emergency Equipment, Respiratory, Instrumentation, Fall Arrest, T&C, and Rentals. The role also supports branch-wide product and distribution needs.
Success in this position is rooted in:
- Strong leadership and development of the Sudbury technician team and collaboration with service administration.
- Effective management of productivity and financial performance.
- Building strong customer relationships and meeting service expectations.
- Planning, executing, and driving accountability across the branch.
- Ensuring safety, quality assurance, and compliance standards are consistently met.
Main Responsibilities
The key areas of responsibility are:
- Ensure the branch has the facilities, equipment, and staffing needed to deliver inspections, maintenance, and installations for life safety and fire protection systems.
- Continuously improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Maximize technician labour efficiency, manage service-related costs, and oversee revenue streams including subcontracted labour, training partners, parts sales, and project support.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, service quality, and technical performance through field technicians.
- Partner with Sales to identify opportunities and support service growth.
- Collaborate with Supervisors, design specialists, and others on quoting, contracts, bids, tenders, and project execution.
- Serve as a technical resource for customers and internal teams.
- Foster a positive environment where technicians share leads and opportunities.
- Work closely with the Regional Admin Manager to ensure effective scheduling and strong customer service.
- Oversee accurate and timely processing of work orders, reports, and invoices.
- Coach and mentor the admin team to gather accurate information and guide customers toward appropriate service solutions.
- Ensure technicians and supervisors have the training, tools, and resources required to perform work effectively.
- Establish performance benchmarks and evaluate team results.
- Plan, deploy, and audit technical and internal training programs aligned with branch goals.
- Provide ongoing in-field and remote coaching.
- Review system designs to reduce customer risk and cost.
- Maintain accurate records to meet customer and contractual requirements.
- Oversee tools, inventory, vehicles, trailers, and facility maintenance.
- Ensure all Health & Safety obligations are met and promote an accident-free workplace.
- Implement and monitor site-specific safety protocols.
- Support regional and national service teams, Fire Systems groups, and cross-functional initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- 4-5+ years of experience in the fire & life safety service industry (5+ preferred).
- Experience leading or supervising a service team.
- Strong background in customer relations, communication, and negotiation.
- Ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders, customers, vendors, and H&S/quality teams.
- Strong judgment, diplomacy, and problem-solving skills in complex situations.
- Ability to analyze information, make decisions based on exceptions, and adapt to frequent changes.
- Comfort working under pressure while maintaining a balanced, professional approach.
