About the role

Instrumentation Technician

Atlantic Operations is a wholly owned subsidiary of St Barbara Limited, an ASX listed gold producer and explorer with mining assets in Canada and Australia.

We are currently seeking 2 Instrumentation Technicians to support our Atlantic Operations. These roles are full time, max-term positions, reporting to the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor and will be based at our Touquoy mine site located approximately 1-hour northeast of Halifax, near Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia.

The Opportunity:

  • Ensuring own Health & Safety as well as that of all other workers, identifying and maintaining safe work practices, and completing all required safety training.
  • Installing, programming, and calibrating new equipment (rebuild as needed) and evaluate latest technologies for feasibility and efficiencies.
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance, installation, and repair of activities of electrical and instrumentation systems as required.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and conducting periodic calibration of instruments on a wide range of equipment including analysers, PLC and process control equipment, communication networks, environmental emission and data logging equipment and field monitoring equipment
  • Calibrating and maintaining components and instruments according to manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Interpreting and using appropriate CSA, ISA and API installation standards and practices.
  • Working with advanced meter(s) (e.g., HART capable process meters) checking for continuity, resistance, voltages and current readings
  • Strong understanding and use of Instrumentation Test Equipment & will be able to complete calibrations unattended.
  • Using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices to inspect and test instrument and system operation, diagnose faults and tubing
  • Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping throughout the maintenance workshops and wherever maintenance work is carried out, to contribute towards a safe work environment, efficient operation of the facilities and to reduce the risk of incidents or injury and the existence of potential hazards.
  • Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the Mill Maintenance team/crew.

Our successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Unencumbered Class 5 driver's license.
  • Journeyman Red Seal Certification
  • Prior work experience in the industrial mining, maintenance and/or electrical/instrumentation industry.
  • Proven technical skills, fault finding and repairing complex electrical, instrumentation and communication systems.
  • Experience in fault finding and utilizing the appropriate diagnostic tools to resolve issues in a timely manner.
