About the Role The ideal candidate will have extensive experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator working with large-scale, highly concurrent, and highly available distributed systems. Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Operations, you will work alongside a team of skilled DBAs, focusing on the health and performance of the SQL Server databases that support our entire application stack throughout their lifecycle. You will be an expert in designing, building, and maintaining SQL Server databases—both for in-house applications and for vendor-provided solutions.

What You'll Do:

  • Configure and monitor interfaces with other systems

  • Maintain systems, user databases, instances, schemas, table spaces, tables, indexes, buffer pools, and logs

  • Manage system and database user IDs, group permissions, backups, and recoveries

  • Provide expertise in: Database performance, High Availability & Scalability.

  • Play a key role in data migrations between systems, including data refreshes

  • Plan, install, and maintain DBMS software in both standalone and clustered environments

  • Automate database tasks using stored procedures and scripting

  • Proactively monitor application and database performance and recommend architectural improvements

  • Assess database scalability and provide strategic recommendations

  • Ensure the integrity of databases supporting mission-critical applications in Saskatchewan’s health sector

  • You will be part of the incident resolution process and thus will need to be a part of the on-call rotation that provides 24 x 7 DBA support.

What You'll Bring to the Team:

  • Post secondary degree or diploma in computer science or a related discipline.

  • 4+ years of working experience with an increasing responsibility within the data warehouse environment.

  • Experience in Database high availability technologies (i.e. Always on Availability Groups).

  • Ability to use Activity Monitor: Check for system CPU utilization, waiting requests, and other performance metrics directly within SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).

  • Experience with optimizing queries and indexes, identify slow queries and review query structure.

  • Experience investigating resource and configuration issues (i.e. User PerfMon to identify the specific queries contributing to High CPU load)

  • Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical groups.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team with strong problem solving and interpersonal skills.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar role may be considered.

**Interpersonal:**Ability to build strong, cooperative and credible working relationships, and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to exchange information, develop agreements, identify solutions, and maintain standards.

**Team/Independence:**Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to meet the needs of clients and coworkers.

**Organizational:**Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines in a changing environment.

**Analytical:**Ability to evaluate data, understand system design implications, and recommend improvements that are within given contains but also meet the needs of the organization.

**Technical:**Ability to design or adapt existing applications/systems while taking into account design alternatives, business requirements and constraints.

**Anticipated Start Date:**April 2026
**Location:**Open to Saskatchewan (On-Site). For roles requiring Regina office space, temporary remote work may be required during our office move. On site work will resume once the new Regina office is ready.
