The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is looking to hire a full-time Manager, Engineering Services, in the Engineering Services Department. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Building Operations, this position is responsible for the supervision and direct “hands-on” operation and maintenance of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building automation, utilities, and life-safety systems serving the CTCC and the Glenbow Museum, along with ensuring the department continues to provide established high service standards while maintaining or improving productivity, efficiency, and safety standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the CTCC and Glenbow Operating systems, ensuring they are maintained and operating to all standards set within the respective Acts, Regulations, and Legislation within the Province of Alberta related to the operation of a heating plant. Ensure the Glenbow HVAC systems comply with requirements associated with an AA class Museum.
  • Supervise and perform “hands-on” duties in operating and maintaining the building(s) operating systems and equipment. Supervises all aspects of service provided by the department to ensure client and guest satisfaction.
  • Ensures building is operating in an efficient manner and identifies and implements opportunities for cost savings and improved environmental sustainability while not compromising service delivery.
  • Prepare and manage work schedules for the Building Operators to ensure regulatory compliance while maintaining established labour budget and service standards.
  • Accountable for accuracy of payroll timesheet submission, review and approve time-off requests, monitor vacation balances ensuring allotted vacation time is used in a timely manner without compromising service delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Building Operations, to develop a business plan and budget (operating and capital) to support all equipment and supplies replacement, refurbishing, and maintenance.
  • Foster a positive work environment ensuring team members are providing a high level of service delivery while maintaining a high level of job satisfaction.
  • Collaborate alongside the Senior Manager, Building Operations and Capital Improvement team to initiate, plan, execute, close, and operate Capital Projects related to areas of responsibility.
  • Accountable for completing client-related work orders are completed in an effective and timely manner.
  • Collaborate closely with Maintenance Services on projects within the facility.
  • Purchase and maintain a comprehensive inventory of departmental equipment and supplies and ensure proper paperwork is in place for these purchases (i.e. chemicals, lighting, plumbing etc.).
  • Accountable for scheduling and administering the preventative maintenance program.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with suppliers, contractors, internal department, and in-house partners and stakeholders and retailers in our building.
  • Demonstrates leadership of health and safety programs and provides training, information, and assistance to department employees in compliance with the health and safety policies.
  • Manage the evaluation of employee performance.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Manager, Building Operations, coach, supervise and develop staff to have the skills, knowledge and support needed to provide clients with high-quality customer service and ensure operational efficiencies.
  • Interview applicants in coordination with the HR & OHS Department and Senior Manager, Building Operations, to fulfill the Engineering Department's positions.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Manager, Building Operations, develop and implement a comprehensive departmental orientation and training program.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Manager, Building Operations, develop, implement, monitor, and update of departmental operating policies and procedures and recommends improvements and innovations that will better reflect the facility's needs and improve efficiency or service.
  • Manages disciplinary issues and terminations in consultation with the Senior Manager, Building Operations, and the HR & OHS Department.
  • Schedule, supervise, and monitor quality of outside contractors on-site.
  • Communicates the interpretation of CTCC policies to staff.
  • Conduct regular safety and department meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Must possess and provide proof of a valid Province of Alberta Power Engineer 4th Class Certificate of Competency or higher.
  • Additional post-secondary education in a related field would be considered an asset.

Training

  • Knowledge and certification to operate forklift and aerial work platforms and related maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of GHS, occupational health and safety regulations, rigging and hoisting requirements and guidelines for working with hazardous materials (i.e., asbestos, workshop solvents).
  • Microsoft Office.
  • First aid, CPR, AED Certification.
  • Building Automation System (BAS) - Desigo operations and programming.

Experience And Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in the operation and maintenance of large commercial buildings with 5+ in a leadership role.
  • Experience with the Siemens Desigo system (asset).
  • Experience with AA controlled environments would be a definite asset.
  • Must be able to pass a police record check.
  • Flexibility to work shift hours and overtime hours, including responding to the building in emergency situations.

Physical Requirements

  • Physically fit to have the ability to lift up to 60lbs (equipment) and push/pull a maximum of 444lbs.
  • Comfortable working at heights.
  • To be able to discern colors.
