Position Title: Placement Coordinator – Foster Care

Department: Child Welfare Location(s): Moosonee, Moose Factory, Cochrane, Kapuskasing, Timmins, or other designated service sites Reports To: Supervisor – Foster Care Job Class: Team Member Salary Structure: CBG05 – Collectively Bargained Grid 05 Unionized: Yes TEER Level: 3 NOC Code: 13110

Purpose of the Role

The Foster Care Placement Coordinator is responsible for identifying, coordinating, and securing safe, appropriate foster care placements for children and youth entering care or requiring a placement change. This role ensures that each placement meets the child’s physical, emotional, cultural, and developmental needs while complying with all child welfare regulations, agency policies, and licensing standards. The coordinator works closely with child care, child protection, and foster care workers, community partners, external partners, and caregivers to support stable, trauma‑informed placements.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Support for Resource Team
  • Assess placement needs based on worker information, safety concerns, and child profiles.

  • Liaise with caregivers, families, and internal teams to confirm and relay schedules, forms, or service changes

  • Match children with foster homes that meet regulatory, cultural, medical, and behavioral requirements.

  • Connect with Outside Paid Resources (OPR) to inquire availability within their homes.

  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of available foster homes, capacity, and caregiver strengths.

  • Coordinate emergency, respite, short‑term, and long‑term placements.

  • Facilitate placement meetings, introductions, and transition planning.

  • Document all placement decisions and rationale in accordance with agency standards.

    Assist in the coordination of team meetings, child wellness check-ins, and group activities.

  • Organizing training and travel for foster parents and internal homes. 

  • Maintain inventories of Foster Care supplies, program materials, and administrative forms

  • Provide general office coverage and administrative continuity in collaboration with broader Admin Support team

  1. Team and Agency Participation
  • Participate in staff meetings, seasonal service planning, and cultural engagement events
  • Collaborate with Admin Support Workers across departments to maintain consistent administrative practices
  • Support staff onboarding and orientation for new workers within the Foster Care program

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate or diploma in Office Administration, Indigenous Studies, Social Services, or a related field; or equivalent lived/professional experience
  • Experience in administrative support in a child welfare, education, or social services setting
  • Knowledge of resource case documentation and understanding of service coordination in a First Nations context
  • Strong time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort working with confidential records and electronic databases   Equivalency will be considered. Familiarity with Indigenous child care systems or lived experience in caregiving is a strong asset.

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and ability to travel occasionally within the region
  • Compliance with all Agency policies, Collective Agreement, and confidentiality protocols
