Experienced Hardscape Labourer

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated Experienced Hardscape Labourer with solid experience in hardscape and construction to join our team. As a key member of our landscaping crew, you will work alongside a skilled Foreman to execute a variety of landscaping projects with precision and efficiency.

The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in all aspects of hardscaping, capable of working independently, and capable in operating landscape and construction equipment. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is eager to learn, grow into a future leadership position and continue advancing their skills within the industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform site preparations, excavation and grading tasks.

  • Installation of landscape elements such as patios, walkways, retaining walls, lawns and sod, trees, shrubs and plants.

  • Follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

  • Assists crew leaders in keeping jobs on time and schedule.

  • Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors.

  • Train new employees on basic Hardscape techniques and processes.

  • Perform seasonal winter work on anti-ice and snow removal as required.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in Hardscape Installations (pavers, patios, retaining walls, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of landscape processes.

  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform outdoor labor. (Ability to stand, walk, bend and stoop for extended periods in a fast-paced environment with repetitive tasks.)

  • Able to work in adverse weather conditions.

  • Enthusiasm for working in an outdoor environment.

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

  • Experience operating landscape machinery and tools such as skid steers, walk behinds, and mini excavators are an asset.

  • Driver's License Class 5 is an asset.

Compensation

$26.5-$32 per hour depending on skills and experience.

Schedule:

  • Regular: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

  • Seasonal Hours (April 13 to September 27, 2026):
    Monday to Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM (4 day a week 10 hour a day schedule)

Work Location: Different Greater Victoria work sites.

Garden City Tree & Landscape Ltd was founded by Chris Stansfield approximately 15 yrs ago. The company has grown to 35 full time staff that includes office administration, Human Resource Technician, Risk manager, Estimator and managers of each of its divisions (Arbor, Maintenance, Install, Irrigation, Equipment). Chris Stansfield is President and co owner. Colin Eaton is Vice President and co owner. The two owners have known each other since their early teens and have developed a respectful working relationship.
