About the role

Your Opportunity:

The AHS Infection Prevention and Control program is seeking an Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) to join our team at South Health Campus. You will work with the IPC team and connect provincially to be a leader in reviewing best practice, advising in IPC measures and supporting program leaders and staff in IPC practices focused on patient safety and infection prevention. New employees to the IPC program will be required to work all work days at their assigned location on-site, for the first 6-12 months. Duration is determined by management.

Description:

As an Infection Prevention and Control Professional (ICP), you will be a patient safety expert who leads the planning, development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of system wide improvements in infection prevention and serves as a role model to promote the goals of the IPC program within the larger context of the vision and mission of AHS. You will facilitate change through interpretation and application of standards, and provide best practice recommendations across the spectrum of the organization with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes and preventing health-care associated infections (HAI).

Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, or Public Health. Other clinical health-related baccalaureate or graduate degrees may be considered if curriculum content equivalency can be adequately demonstrated. Minimum of three years' experience in a clinical health care setting, or experience and proficiency in two of the following: 1) patient care practice; 2) microbiology and infectious diseases; or 3) epidemiology and biostatistics. Active or eligible registration with the applicable regulatory college i.e. College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA), etc.

Additional Required Qualifications:

IPC experience required and/or completed IPAC sponsored or endorsed novice IPC course.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in Infection Control CIC© from the Certification Board of Infection Control. Recent experience in; nursing, microbiology and infectious diseases, epidemiology and biostatistics, laboratory technology, or public health.
