Grade 8 Learning Strategies: Literacy and Numeracy

Building Confidence After the Bell This after-school program is designed for current Grade 7 and 8 students across the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board. The program is intended to improve literacy and numeracy skills while intentionally fostering students' self-confidence, resilience, and well-being. The goal of the program is to provide valuable experiences supporting students' successful transition to Grade 8 and/or St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School. Students who successfully complete the Gr. 8 program will earn the Grade 9 Learning Strategies credit. Programs will be offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings with some Saturday sessions. E ffective February 202 6 until April 2026 (Grade 7) and May 202 6 (Grade 8) with the possibility of extension Requirements

  • Basic qualifications to teach in the Intermediate Division
  • Experience teaching in the Intermediate Division
  • A thorough understanding of the Ontario Language and Mathematics Curriculum and effective strategies to facilitate literacy and numeracy development
  • Knowledge and understanding of effective literacy and mathematics instructional and assessment strategies
  • Knowledge and experience in utilizing student learning management systems such as Google Classroom as well as additional G-Suite digital tools and EDSBY to support effective communication with parents
  • A commitment to supporting the use of technology in instruction and learning, and to promoting an environment of innovation and creativity that engages the 21st century learner
  • Proven ability to implement effective classroom management strategies
  • Proven ability to provide differentiated instructional strategies and in programming for students as a means of reducing gaps in student outcomes
  • A repertoire of differentiating an array of instructional and assessment strategies appropriate for specific learner needs
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating innovative and creative instruction and learning environments with students using a variety of strategies and technologies
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, an approachable style and high degree of initiative
  • Qualifications in Special Education would be considered an asset
  • FSL Part 1 (pending enrolment, one group may be instructed in French)
