The Engineering Business Strategist helps to plan and drive the objectives of the Traffic Services Division and Mobility Business Unit as a whole. The position involves aiding day-to-day management activities, coordinating initiatives, and business planning. Primary duties include:
- Synthesize and develop detailed longer-term engineering strategies (including quality control and reliability and innovation initiatives) in response to strategic direction from the Manager and/or Director.
- Prepare the Divisional business plan, including workforce planning, overtime management, and reports pertaining to capital and operating budgets.
- Offer leadership and support on behalf of the Manager for various Divisional projects/programs and provide strategic reports to senior management on Divisional initiatives.
- Research best industry practices for current activities, new initiatives, and engineering/maintenance practices and technologies.
- Communicate regularly to Divisional staff regarding initiatives and direction on behalf of the manager.
- Write, edit, review, and track all reports going to Committees and Council.
- Coordinate Divisional participation in corporate initiatives and reporting.
Qualifications
- A degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
- You must have at least 4 years of experience in relevant traffic and transportation engineering, obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
- Experience developing business plans, strategies, and writing reports will be considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires strong communication and project management skills, and the ability to understand key performance indicators, quality control principles, and statistics.
Pre-employment Requirements
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Position Type: 1 Temporary (up to 23 months)
Location: 2808 Spiller Road SE
Compensation: Level P3E $113,200 - 141,500 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
