About the role
The Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce is seeking a creative and collaborative Exhibit Designer to join the in-house design team located at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumheller, Alberta. This role involves developing and implementing 2D & 3D-related design projects for the Museum, including internal and external exhibits, hands-on interactives, signage, and more.
Responsibilities:
- Translate ideas into tangible exhibit structures and assist with installation.
- Create mock-ups and iterate designs based on team feedback.
- Develop concepts using 2D & 3D software, sketches, and industrial materials.
- Produce detailed drawings/renderings for fabrication teams and vendors.
- Coordinate with printers and fabricators to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
- Monitor exhibits and address deficiencies.
- Support exhibit fabrication, installation, and demolition.
- Source quotes and services from external vendors.
- Drive innovation and integrate successful design precedents.
- Evaluate audience interaction and design effectiveness.
- Stay current with design software, fabrication techniques, and museum content.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Exhibit, Industrial, or related design field
- One to three years of practical experience
- Strong research and creative problem-solving abilities
- Effective collaboration and communication with clients and vendors
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Organizational and time management skills
- Comfortable working in an open-concept environmentt
Assets:
- Experience in a museum or cultural institution
- 2D or graphic design experience
Technical Proficiency:
- 3D CAD Software: SketchUp
- 2D Design Software: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
- Office Tools: Microsoft Office Suite (Mac-friendly environment)
- Other: Photography; working with materials like foamcore, vinyl, acrylic, plywood, steel, aluminum, and substrates (e.g., Dibond)
Compensation:
- Salary: $22 – 24/hr (36.25 hrs/wk)

Term: Full-time permanent, to start as soon as possible
