You as a Sr. Backup & Data Governance Specialist will:
- Manage and support enterprise backup environments including Veeam systems, immutable/mutable repositories, cloud tiers, storage platforms, and related infrastructure.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for major backup and recovery incidents, and implement temporary and permanent solutions to maintain business continuity.
- Optimize and maintain backup operations, including workflow troubleshooting, recovery operations, retention/replication issues, capacity/availability planning, performance tuning, and infrastructure forecasting.
- Lead change management activities, including preparing implementation/rollback/test plans, reviewing changes from junior engineers, and participating in CAB discussions and readiness assessments.
- Maintain governance and documentation, ensuring accurate procedures, RCAs, runbooks, policies, and compliance records aligned with SLAs, OLAs, quality, and security standards.
- Perform routine, planned, and emergency maintenance on backup infrastructure, storage repositories, cloud object storage, and related components.
- Identify architecture risks and design resilient solutions, including eliminating single points of failure and strengthening multisite and cloud-based backup and recovery strategies.
- Fulfill complex service requests such as restores, data extractions, compliance retrievals, and recovery testing.
- Coordinate with vendors and third parties for escalations, patching, troubleshooting, and architecture validation related to backup and data protection platforms.
- Support IT project milestones (including extended hours when required) and mentor junior team members by reviewing deliverables and providing coverage as needed.
- Recommend and implement improvements in automation, reporting optimization, immutability, and operational processes to increase reliability and customer satisfaction
Is this the right role for you?
- 7–10 years of experience supporting enterprise‑level backup environments.
- Advanced expertise with Veeam Backup & Replication, including hardened/immutable repositories, cloud immutability, Backup Copy & GFS, Instant Recovery, and Veeam Agents.
- Experience with additional enterprise backup or storage platforms (e.g., Dell Data Domain, Azure Backup, Commvault) is an asset.
- Strong understanding of data governance, retention, compliance, and audit requirements.
- Solid knowledge of VMware, Windows, Linux, SAN/NAS storage, and hybrid cloud environments.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot performance issues and optimize backup and recovery SLAs.
- Experience with monitoring/reporting tools used in backup and infrastructure resilience.
- Relevant certifications (VMCE/VMCA, Commvault, Azure/AWS, ITIL) preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with willingness to participate in on‑call rotation.
