Rate of Pay: $17.60 per hour

Duration: Approx. April-September, 2026 (Non-Permanent)

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

##Core Role Responsibilities:

  • Assists Interpretation Coordinator in maintaining clean, neat and tidy interpretive areas, and an organized, labeled, biofact collection.
  • On a daily basis, circulates around to all volunteer areas to interact with volunteers and ensure they are comfortable, and everything is operating smoothly. Reports/removes any interpretive materials that are in need of repair/reworking, and relays any other issues related to interpretation at the stations to the Coordinators.
  • Operates interpretive stations as needed to model interpretive technique to Volunteer interpreters and support Volunteer Services' commitment to providing an engaging interpretive experience in numerous areas.
  • Assists in maintaining / renewing interpretive stations and other educational static displays as necessary.
  • Assists in the co-ordination of new programs or projects as required.
  • Assists in the production of educational materials / resources required by the volunteers.
  • Assists with monthly Volunteer meetings and newsletters where required.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.

##Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Enrolled in post-secondary education; preferably in the field of education and/or biology and/or non-profit administration.
  • Training and/or experience in natural/cultural heritage interpretation an asset.
  • Volunteer Management Programs/Certificate an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of plants/animals/conservation issues, and the ability to pass this information on to others.
  • Prior experience as a volunteer/working in a similar position in a volunteer-based organization preferred.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills.
  • Proven organizational ability when working with groups of people of diverse ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
  • Capable of maintaining accurate, up to date, and comprehensive records.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use basic office equipment and proficient with computer programs including Microsoft Office and CRM databases.
  • Proven writing skills to allow for the preparation of resource materials, training materials, articles / newsletters, correspondence, and concise but accurate reports.
  • Knowledge of the Toronto Zoo and its exhibits an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to work shifts, weekends, and evenings.
