Transmissions Stations Project Engineer
About the role
Our client, a leading electric utility provider in British Columbia, is seeking an E4 - Engineer to join their team.
This role applies engineering knowledge to provide estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium-complexity projects and operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time. You will have the opportunity to lead multi-discipline design teams and work on critical transmission systems and substation projects.
This is a 1 year contract with potential to extend - hybrid in Vancouver. Travel to remote sites across BC may be required.
What You’ll Do
Develop safe engineering solutions, analyze designs, and interpret engineering specifications for medium-complexity assignments. Assist project and operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by managing plans, cost estimates, and progress reports. Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems through independent studies and analysis. Participate in the organization's engineering practices, contribute to technical standards, and provide guidance to develop future engineering capability. Prepare work package agreements, design bases, design plans, and other project engineering deliverables. Chair project design meetings, ensuring deliverables are met while capturing and distributing meeting minutes efficiently. Proactively ensure engineering deliverables are achieved by anticipating challenges and roadblocks.
What You Bring
An Engineering degree in a relevant discipline (electrical, civil, structural, or mechanical) recognized by Canadian Universities. A minimum of 10+ years of utility engineering experience, including significant time working on electrical substation projects. 4+ years of project engineering or project management experience, either in a formal capacity or acting as a lead engineer/work package manager. Solid experience leading multi-discipline design teams in protection, control, and telecom systems. Must hold a PMP certification. Strong electric utility engineering background with the ability to think from a transmission system and operations perspective. Expert knowledge of project management principles and exceptional relationship management skills. High-level written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present technical project info to both technical and non-technical audiences. Good technical knowledge of substation design, transmission lines, and interconnections.
