As a Clinical Counselling Student Learner with Homewood, you will gain hands-on

experience providing short-term, solution-focused counselling within a structured, supportive and collaborative clinical environment. You’ll work alongside experienced clinicians across either our Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP) or within our Return-to-Work Specialty services, supporting clients with a variety of personal, mental health and/or workplace-related concerns.

Designed for students seeking meaningful client exposure and high-quality

supervision, this practicum provides opportunities to strengthen clinical confidence, apply evidence-based approaches and develop skills aligned with real-world counselling practice in a national virtual and in-person care environment. This practicum is ideal for students who are curious, compassionate, clinically engaged, and eager to learn within a national mental health organization that values evidence-based care, collaboration, inclusion, and meaningful client impact.

What You’ll Gain

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Deliver supervised direct and indirect clinical services, including confidential counselling
  • Participate in case consultation, debriefing, clinical planning and documentation
  • Apply evidence-based practices, ethical guidelines and professional standards
  • Engage in training, supervision, and reflective learning
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support coordinated client care
  • Develop skills in brief intervention, risk assessment, treatment planning and outcome-focused care

  • Ability to provide short-term, goal-oriented counselling using sound clinical judgement
  • Developing capacity to assess risk, respond to crisis situations and engage in safety planning
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including empathy and rapport-building
  • Commitment to high-quality, client-centred care and continuous learning
  • Strong organizational and time management skills in a virtual environment
  • Openness to feedback, supervision and reflective practice
  • Professionalism, accountability and respect for confidentiality and ethical practice

Please note

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Master’s Program relevant to Clinical Counselling with one of our designated universities above.
  • We highly recommend to register with a National governing body that permits you to see clients nationally.

  • Vulnerable Sector Clearance – May be applied for upon placement offer
  • Provisional Status Registration with your preferred governing body
  • Internet speed must be minimum 50 Mbps - confirmation with screenshot will be required (fast.com)
  • Must be available for a minimum of 20 hours per week (completed over three weekdays) 80% of which would be between 8am - 4pm 
  • Modem/Router access required
  • Dedicated, confidential workspace required
