Position Overview

StepStones for Youth is seeking a highly organized, adaptable, and solutions-oriented Project Manager with extensive experience in social services (ideally related to topics such as child protection and youth homelessness) to oversee multiple concurrent projects. The project manager will be responsible for supporting program evaluation, research, partner collaboration, stakeholder engagement and this will also include the activation of our newly acquired property — which will become the first dedicated hub in Canada designed specifically for young people involved in the child welfare system — along with other cross-organizational strategic initiatives. This role will play a key role in transforming a physical space into a welcoming, purpose-built environment where young people can access wrap-around supports, programming, and community. This hub will serve as a model for what support for youth involved in foster care can look like across the country.

This is a generalist project management role that requires strong operational judgment, the ability to create structure in dynamic and evolving environments, and comfort balancing long-term strategic planning with day-to-day problem solving.

The successful candidate will work with senior leadership to ensure key initiatives are executed efficiently, compliantly, and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Organizational Project Management

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of strategic projects from initiation through evaluation, ensuring alignment with budget and timelines.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, milestones, and reporting systems to track progress, risks, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate cross-departmental teams, external vendors, and partners to ensure clarity, accountability, and momentum across initiatives.
  • Oversee operational planning and execution of events, community initiatives, and organizational activations, including logistics, compliance, and budget tracking.
  • Strengthen organizational systems and infrastructure by identifying operational efficiencies, improving workflows, and developing scalable processes and documentation.
  • Provide executive-level support through regular progress updates, board reporting preparation, and proactive identification of operational risks and improvement opportunities.

Property Project Oversight

  • Lead day-to-day coordination and develop detailed project timelines for all project related initiatives.

  • In collaboration with the CEO, monitor renovation budgets, source quotes, and submit orders. Assist with procurement processes and vendor selection.

  • Ensure compliance with municipal, provincial, fire code, and all other relevant regulations. Coordinate inspections and follow-up work.

  • Develop systems for ongoing building oversight and maintenance

  • Develop building risk management and incident response protocols

  • Troubleshoot urgent or emerging building-related issues

  • Provide on-site presence as required

  • Liaise with contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, accessibility consultants, and city officials.

  • 3+ years of project management experience and 5-7 years of social service experience

  • Experience in non-profit or community-based organizations (especially related to child protection) considered a strong asset

  • Experience managing renovation projects considered a strong asset

  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects

  • Strong vendor and stakeholder management skills

  • Experience working with budgets and financial tracking

  • Familiarity with compliance, permits, or municipal processes is an asset

About StepStones for Youth

Civic and Social Organizations

An award-winning and Charity Intelligence Canada A+ and 5 Star-rated organization, we assist marginalized young people who are or have been involved, through no fault of their own, in Ontario’s Child Protection Services and who have significant histories of trauma, abuse, and neglect. Our intended objectives for our target population are to create positive and meaningful connections with family, community, and culture; strengthen a sense of belonging; increase school engagement, high school graduation, and post-secondary enrolment; improve mental and physical health; secure long-term and stable housing; and build strong support networks young people can rely on for life.

Our strategic direction is informed equally by the Members of our Board of Directors and by the young people we serve. We work in solidarity with youth who have lived experience in foster and group home care and their voices, ideas, and suggestions guide all aspects of our work from programming to evaluation. We seek to actively address the structural and systemic barriers that prevent individuals from accessing opportunities to participate and from realizing their potential, particularly youth from Black, Indigenous, and 2SLGBTQ+ communities who are over-represented in the child welfare system.

Our vision of a world where all young people have a sense of belonging with people who love and care about them guides our evidence-based Building Connections program. Our model of service operates with the knowledge that strong, long-term connections to people and support networks create better outcomes for isolated children and youth from foster care than simply gaining skills in an isolated context. We help youth build relational connections with caring, non-paid adults including mentors, extended family members, and community allies who reflect their cultural identities and lived experiences. Our targeted methods of prevention achieve long-term and sustainable impact rather than short-term, temporary solutions.
