As a Junior Transportation Engineer, you will plan and create transportation engineering analyses through the production, application and interpretation of transportation forecasting models. You will support a variety of engineering assignment by applying standard procedures, methods and established practices. Primary duties include:

  • Work with internal project teams to conduct transportation planning and traffic engineering analyses.
  • Participate in project teams to develop, contribute and interpret the analysis produced by the Division for the project.
  • Work on internal project teams to design, develop and maintain transportation forecasting models of various kinds.
  • Research, design and implement new methods, tools, procedures and processes to optimize quality and efficiency of the Division's operations, products and services.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil or related Engineering field with at least 1 year of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
  • Experience with Python computer coding is an asset.
  • Experience with predictive modelling and/or forecasting is an asset.
  • Experience working with EMME, Dynameq or OpenPaths transportation modelling software in an asset.
  • Experience working in the transportation field and a specific interest and aptitude for technically demanding work is an asset.
  • You will demonstrate motivation, innovation, initiative and have the ability to learn on the job, have high work standards and are able to assess and solve complex problems.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

  • Position Type: 1 Temporary (up to 18 months)
  • Compensation: Level P2E $100,369 - 125,460 per annum
  • Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.
  • Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
