Are you a detail-oriented and experienced payroll professional looking to lead a dynamic team in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing? The Edmonton's Employee Service Centre (ESC) team has an opening as a Payroll Team Lead, we’d love to hear from you!
The Payroll Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring that all employees are paid accurately and on time. You will manage a team of payroll specialists, troubleshoot payroll issues, and ensure compliance with collective agreements.
What will you do?
- Bi-weekly processing and auditing of end to end payroll for union and non-unionized employees
- Provide leadership to Payroll Service Representatives and ensure performance standards and customer expectations are met in delivering end to end bi-weekly payroll services
- Serve as a functional expert in Payroll, supporting the Director, Managers, Team Leads, and Representatives that are responsible for the provision of Payroll services
- Work with Managers and Team Leads to identify training needs by performing needs analysis and developing and delivering training programs and documentation to empower Representatives to handle difficult payroll inquiries
- Provide year-end T4 reporting and reconciliation functions in accordance with Collective Agreements, third party processes, and applicable tax legislation
- Act as internal expert on time entry, approvals and security set-up, allowances and premiums, WCB and ROE processing, leave plans, and benefit entitlements
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Business Administration, or a discipline as required by area of specialization and/or
- Payroll Leadership Professional Certification (PLP) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS)
- Minimum of 5 years progressive payroll experience
- Minimum of 2 years supervising teams
- Experience working within a large unionized environment
- Experience interpreting and applying multiple Collective Agreements for payroll purposes
Skills required for success:
- Ability to actively coach and lead teams with enthusiasm and professionalism in a fast paced, high-volume environment
- Relevant experience in creating and delivering training programs for payroll processes
- Exceptional customer service, analytical and proactive problem solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and team members
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Google Docs and Gmail
