Key Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s largest high-grade uranium mill. The uranium milled at Key Lake is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. The Role

Cameco is looking for a safety professional with a strong background in and passion for safety compliance to join the Key Lake operations. Leading by example alongside the health and safety team, you will work toward the elimination of safety hazards and risks as you support the workplace health and safety programs through educational leadership.

In this role, you will:

  • Supervise and mentor safety technicians.
  • Ensure site compliance with regulatory requirements regarding the fire protection program, emergency preparedness and response program and the occupational health and safety program.
  • Conduct and direct work to meet requirements as outlined in Cameco’s safety standards.
  • Function within the incident command systems in times of crisis.
  • Maintain safety equipment, fire hall, response trailers.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of emergency response training.
  • Assess the Safety Program and implement improvements.
  • Facilitate inspections, internal audits and incident investigations. Participate in safety system field assessments and provide improvement feedback to site personnel.

Required:

  • degree in a safety-related field, Construction Safety Officer (CSO), National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or a diploma in occupational health and safety, or relevant program;
  • five to eight years of relevant work experience in the milling and mining industry;
  • equivalent combination of education and work experience considered;
  • advanced first aid certificate;
  • fire protection engineering or experience with fire protection systems;
  • knowledgeable in Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Mines Regulations;
  • valid Class 5 driver’s license; and
  • work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.

Recommended:

  • supervisory experience;
  • Willingness to participate on the Emergency Response and/or Mine Rescue team
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent designation;
  • qualified emergency response instructor (NFPA, IFSTA);
  • ICS 100/200.
