About the role

A Pension Analyst works in a team environment and acts as a pension, actuarial and technical resource who is responsible for accurate reviews and outputs in compliance with plan rules, legislative requirements, and internal practices. A Pension Analyst also works with the team to meet client deliverables within deadlines.

The Pension Analyst will:

  • Review Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC) pension entitlements on death, disability, retirement, termination, and marriage breakdown in accordance with specific Plan provisions, actuarial assumptions, government legislation requirements and current service standards.
  • Review monthly bulk authorization payment files for review by team using data extracts from case management system and database.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for members and client, including daily updates, disability credits and monthly forfeited benefits.
  • Reconcile and validate database on an ongoing basis.
  • Produce client and team administrative reports with use of data extracts in Excel.
  • Participate in yearend activities, including data updates, validations, reconciliations, annual pension statements, fillings, and peer reviews.
  • Prepare and review valuation data and coordinate with Third-Party Actuary to complete process.
  • Lead team project work.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot administrative macros/tools, Microsoft Excel calculators and Word Merge templates.
  • Assist in technical training of administrative team.
  • Support administration team with actuarial concepts and plan text interpretations.
  • Work with IT department and administration team to develop, implement and test database enhancements.
  • Participate in analysis and implementations of new clients.

To be successful as a Pension Analyst with BPA, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science or mathematics preferred.
  • 5-8 years of pension administration, analyst, and/or implementation experience.
  • ASA designation and/or DB pension actuarial background preferred.
  • Expert-level understanding of pension administration and actuarial concepts related to DB entitlements.
  • Expert-level skill in Excel (must be able to build, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues independently).
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Word-Merge.
  • Familiarity with Visual Basics preferred.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral.
  • Excellent work ethic and accountability.
  • Works well with others.
