Job Description Position Purpose summary: To offer casual relief for our driving duties, including picking up and disbursing donations for The Salvation Army North Vancouver

Accountabilities

  • Driving duties to pick up AND DELIVER food and material donations, as needed
  • May assist in processing raw materials by unloading, sorting, packing, storing, loading the donations; protects the integrity of the donations
  • May assist with selecting donations for store distribution, meeting established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded and good quality merchandise according to company standards
  • May assist with meeting assigned daily targets, counts, weighs and records incoming and outgoing donations
  • Complies with all safety procedures and in/outdoor tidy maintenance guidelines
  • May operate warehouse equipment such as power jack
  • Perform other duties as required

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Governance Boards And Councils Internal: Staff, management, volunteers, clients. External: Donors, community. Managerial Responsibility

  • Reports directly to: Ministry Unit leader
  • Direct reports: None

Financial And Materials Management

  • Considerable material responsibility.
  • Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Does not process any financial transactions with no budget responsibilities.
  • May use a fuel credit card for fueling purposes only.

Working Conditions

  • This is a casual -on call position.
  • May be exposed to various temperatures and outdoor conditions (freezer).
  • Generally exposed to occasional periods of physical strain.
  • Require ability to apply physical force to move/lift/transport materials up to 50 lbs.
  • May be required to work outside of regular business hours or at alternate locations on occasion.
  • Some day or short-term travel may be required.

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).

Education, Qualifications And Certifications

  • High school diploma
  • A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License supported by a clean Driver’s Abstract

Experience And Knowledge

  • Up to 12 months of prior related experience, including experience with warehouse processing or goods distribution and knowledge of lifting guidelines are an asset

Skills And Capabilities

  • Experience in sorting food and goods
  • Punctuality, reliability, trustworthiness
  • Required to lift and/move more than 40 pounds
  • May operate warehouse equipment such as power jack

Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $19.93 to $24.91 with a maximum of $29.89.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
