About the role
Our Calgary client is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join their team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in completing the month-end close process and overseeing the daily accounting functions across the General Accounting, Inventory, and Billings teams. This position will supervise two direct reports and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with internal controls, and continuous process improvement.
Your Success Will Be Defined By Your Ability To
- Manage the period close of general ledger and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy in financial statements.
- Prepare standard cost analysis and investigate variances.
- Review and manage lease and fixed asset schedules.
- Review Government Remittances including GST and PST.
- Coordinate and prepare information for the year-end audit.
- Lead and support direct reports, including guidance, training, and mentorship.
- Provide support for projects with a focus on process improvements and system implementation.
- Works closely with Operations and ensure open communication to gain up to date knowledge of the business to ensure results are as expected.
Your Strengths Include
- CPA designation (or equivalent).
- 5+years’ progressive accounting experience; preferably with leadership experience.
- Experience and knowledge with IFRS Reporting Standards.
- Highly proficient in Excel.
- Experience in the energy services sector would be considered an asset.
- Experience with Dynamics AX would be considered an asset.
