Primary Objective of the Position:
The Manager, Health & Safety is responsible for the implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of the company’s health and safety programs, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations while fostering a strong safety culture across the organization.
Job Duties:

Lead the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of Health & Safety and Disability Management programs, ensuring regulatory compliance and operational effectiveness.

Oversee end-to-end disability management, including workplace injuries, Short-Term Disability (STD), Long-Term Disability (LTD), and return-to-work (RTW) programs.

Manage case coordination, including claim reporting, documentation, accommodation planning, and communication with employees, managers, and external providers.
-
Partner with Payroll, HR, and external vendors (e.g., insurers, WSIB, WCB) to ensure timely processing, adjudication support, and resolution of disability cases.

Ensure compliance with the Canada Labour Code Part II, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations (OHS), Aviation Occupational Health & Safety Regulations (AOHS), and all applicable disability-related legislation and standards.

Monitor and interpret applicable health, safety, and disability legislation, and liaise with regulatory authorities and external agencies as required.

Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and programs related to health, safety, disability management, and workplace accommodation.

Act as the primary subject matter expert for Health & Safety and Disability Management, providing guidance to managers on case handling, accommodations, and RTW planning.

Conduct regular site visits, inspections, and safety audits to ensure compliance and identify risks.
-
Analyze safety incidents, disability trends, and absence data to identify root causes and recommend proactive prevention and early intervention strategies.

Lead or support incident and accident investigations, ensuring proper documentation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
-
Oversee safety and disability-related training programs, including maintaining training matrices, certifications, and compliance records.

Maintain and update the Health & Safety and Disability Management Program Manual to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and best practices.

Prepare and manage documentation and reporting, including incident reports, disability case tracking, hazard assessments, and regulatory submissions.

Oversee Workplace Health & Safety Committees across all locations, ensuring compliance, regular meetings, and follow-up on action items.

Develop and deliver communications, including orientation materials, awareness campaigns, and guidance on safety and disability management practices.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
-
Post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field preferred.

Minimum 5 years of relevant Health & Safety experience in a regulated environment.

Strong knowledge of applicable regulations, including Transport Canada (TC), Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), and occupational health and safety standards.

Experience managing regulatory compliance, audits, and safety programs.

Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills with attention to detail.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across teams.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety reporting systems.
-
Ability to obtain and maintain required Health & Safety certifications.
