The Durham Catholic District School Board invites applications from qualified candidates interested in the following position:

POSITION: SUPPLY LINC/ESL INSTRUCTOR

CLB LEVELS: Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels 1 – 6, Literacy

HOURS OF WORK: Varied, dependent upon system’s operational needs (8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.)

START DATE: As soon as possible

LOCATIONS: Whitby Language Center: 1003 Giffard Street, Whitby, ON, L1N 2S3

Ajax Welcome Center: 458 Fairall Street, Ajax, ON, L1S 1R6

Ajax Continuing Education: 458 Fairall Street, Unit 7, Ajax, ON, L1S

RATE OF PAY : $45.92 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay

  • Deliver classroom instruction to LINC/ESL students both in-person and virtually from assigned locations in Whitby and Ajax.
  • Follow lesson plans and/or prepare lesson plans according to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels and student needs.
  • Implementation of CLB related activities and competencies.
  • Complete required reports and student attendance.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Teachers of English as a Second Language (TESL) Ontario certification (OCELT) membership in good standing.
  • Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA) training and experience.
  • CLB bootcamp certificate.
  • Experience using History of Assessment, Referral, and Training Systems (HARTs) for recording course data, learner data, and attendance.
  • Thorough understanding of Canadian Language Benchmarks.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both oral and written.
  • Ability to maintain records, artifacts, and other supporting documents as required.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience integrating technology into the classroom.
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams and Avenue platforms.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
