ROLE OVERVIEW: Metallurgist (NOC 21109)

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work as an integral member of the Glencore Canada Growth and Solutions Team under the Glencore Technologies, Special Projects Group. The Growth and Solutions Team exists to forward business and growth for Glencore Technologies through direct client and stakeholder engagement and the development of processing solutions based on proprietary technologies and processes. Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, you will be responsible for training and supporting site teams with Jameson Cell test work completed on mine sites and in laboratories, commissioning technologies and supporting the senior solutions metallurgist and clients on planning and interpretation of test work. This Metallurgist position supports Glencore Technology’s proprietary solutions by delivering test work, commissioning, and technical services. This role serves as a bridge between clients, site teams, and the technical team to ensure accurate implementation and performance of our technologies.

JOB DUTIES

Test Work, Commissioning & Site Support

Developing, managing, analyzing, training and reporting on test work programs involving pilot rigs, laboratory and site-based work

Participating in commissioning programs, site audits, and technical evaluations

Technical Support & Process Expertise

Conducting studies/research, analyzing and interpreting metallurgical data

Providing technical guidance to clients and stakeholders

Responding to client inquiries related to metallurgical processes

Alliance Partner & Stakeholder Management

Developing and maintaining relationships with key technology alliance partners

Providing remote and on-site support for Jameson Cell operations

Glencore Operations Support

Providing support for Glencore operations as needed, including regional visits and best-practice initiatives.

Travel & work hours

Primary work location: Toronto, Ontario. Job duties include extensive travel requirements, travel to visit company and client sites such as visiting laboratory/research and mining sites, long days onsite in remote and extreme conditions with up to 75% travel

Some irregular hours may be necessary to achieve timely results on project deadlines

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering

Must have a minimum of 2+ years of experience related to working in the metallurgy/mining industry

Ability to build effective relationships with heads of various business units/teams and project stakeholders (mining industry/operations), required

Efficient and adaptable communication and interpersonal skills, required

Must have excellent verbal and written English communication skills

Experience with operating different mineral processing equipment and troubleshooting equipment problems would be an asset

Working across different teams on processing sites including maintenance, operators and laboratory, preferred

Experience with leaching technologies would be an asset

Experience with Jameson cell technology, preferred

Additional experience in grinding, stirred milling, and hydrometallurgy would be an asset
