About You / What We Are Looking For
Are you an experienced urbanist, who wants to help shape the future of the City? We have an exciting opportunity for four regular full-time Planner 2 to join our team of professionals, working as part of a highly collaborative and skilled Development Planning Division within our Planning & Development Department. The Planner 2 position is primarily responsible for processing and project managing a variety of development applications including complex rezoning and development permit applications.
The successful candidates will be called upon to undertake a wide variety of municipal planning work including: managing development applications; implementing principles of good urban design, facilitating transit-oriented development, presenting to Council, writing planning reports, and providing profession planning advice and recommendations. The role may also supervise other technical and professional employees. The Planner 2 exercises considerable independent judgment in developing, completing and administering programs and projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Our ideal candidates will have 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible planning experience and have a graduate degree in Community and Regional Planning or related field plus membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and Planning Institute of B.C. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. A driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is also a requirement for this position.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the

Ability to negotiate, influence, and liaise effectively with contractors, consultants, community groups, members of the public and external agencies.

Advanced research, analytical and problem solving skills, with an ability to interpret emerging issues.

Staff supervision and team management

Strong public presentation skills
What We Offer:
This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $56.34 - $66.72 per hour (2025 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in an earned day off/flex day program. This position is based in Coquitlam with some flexible, hybrid work options available. The City offers an attractive vacation and extended benefits package, including the ability to contribute to the Municipal Pension Plan.
