About the role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Mid-level / Senior Platform Engineer (Porting / Co-dev) based in Canada. This role is focused on building and optimizing the low-level systems that power high-performance games across modern platforms, including next-gen consoles and PC. You will work at the intersection of engine engineering, platform integration, and performance optimization, contributing directly to how games run, scale, and feel in real time. The environment is highly technical and collaborative, with close interaction across gameplay, rendering, audio, and tools teams. You will tackle complex challenges in memory, I/O, and CPU performance while ensuring stability and scalability across platforms. This is a hands-on engineering role where deep systems knowledge and practical problem-solving meet creative game development. You will also help shape tooling and workflows that improve performance visibility and developer productivity. The work has direct impact on shipped titles and player experience across multiple platforms. \n
Accountabilities: In this role, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing core platform and engine systems that ensure high performance, stability, and scalability across consoles and PC. Own and evolve platform-facing systems within proprietary engines, with a focus on performance, reliability, and scalability. Design, implement, and optimize memory systems including allocators, pooling strategies, streaming heaps, and fragmentation mitigation. Build and improve I/O and streaming pipelines, including async file systems, asset streaming, decompression, and patch-friendly data layouts. Enhance CPU performance through multithreading, job systems, scheduling optimization, and frame-time stabilization. Integrate and maintain platform SDK abstractions across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC environments. Profile and debug performance using platform and internal tools to identify bottlenecks and eliminate regressions. Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to define performance budgets, technical constraints, and best practices. Contribute to engineering tools, automation, and telemetry systems that improve performance visibility and development efficiency. Communicate technical risks, trade-offs, and roadmap considerations to production and leadership stakeholders. Requirements: The ideal candidate is a strong systems engineer with deep low-level expertise and a passion for performance-critical game development. Experience in C++ systems programming, with strong knowledge of multithreading, memory management, and low-level debugging. Background in game engine development, platform engineering, or performance-critical software systems. Solid understanding of console and PC architecture, including CPU behavior, memory hierarchy, caching, and storage/I/O constraints. Experience integrating and working with platform SDKs and cross-platform abstraction layers. Proficiency in profiling and performance optimization using tools such as PIX or equivalent platform debugging suites. Ability to design maintainable, scalable systems and take ownership of complex technical areas. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, production, and content teams. Comfortable working in ambiguous, evolving technical environments and solving unfamiliar problems. Bonus: shipped titles on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Nintendo platforms, or experience with Unreal Engine. Bonus: experience building performance dashboards, regression detection systems, or automated benchmarking tools. Benefits: Competitive salary range: $126,000 – $160,000 CAD annually Remote-friendly work model within Canada with Pacific Time collaboration expectations Opportunity to work on AAA games and technically ambitious multi-platform projects High-impact engineering role influencing shipped console and PC titles Collaborative, multidisciplinary development environment Exposure to cutting-edge game engine and platform technologies Strong focus on technical growth, ownership, and creative problem-solving Opportunity to work on both proprietary engines and world-class IPs
