The Opportunity
The City of St. John’s Waste and Recycling Division is seeking a highly motivated and environmentally conscious individual to lead our Litter Collection Crew and support city wide clean-up efforts throughout the summer.
Accountabilities
We are seeking an energetic and skilled individual to support daily operations by planning routes, creating crew schedules, and completing essential daily and weekly administrative tasks. In addition to these office duties, this position works directly with the litter crew every day, actively participating in fieldwork and contributing alongside the team.
The successful applicant will be required to participate in all training programs applicable to this position and other related work. Qualifications
- One-year post-secondary education/training in a business program or related field would be an asset
- Experience with MS Word/Excel
- Experience leading or guiding a team
- Excellent communication skills
- Dependable and self-motivated with the ability to work as part of a team
- Must have valid class 5 driver’s license (must be age 21 or over to meet rental requirements)
Additional Requirements
- Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Record Screening Certificate (or equivalent) – Dated not more than 6 months prior to hire
- Valid class 5 driver’s license and driver’s abstract dated no more than 30 days prior to hire
- Must be age 21 or over to meet rental vehicle requirements
- Ability to drive throughout the city (rental vehicle will be provided)
This position is classified as a safety sensitive position. The City of St. John’s has a comprehensive Drug and Alcohol Policy to ensure fitness for work and the completion of a satisfactory alcohol and drug test is a mandatory pre-employment requirement. Working Conditions
While some time is spent in the office this position also requires driving throughout the City and working with litter crew on site in all types of weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
This position requires physical stamina as the incumbent is required to perform repetitive tasks including twisting, bending, squatting and lifting in order to complete the duties.
Hours of Work
- Period of employment: May 6 – August 5, 2026
- Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- This position reports out of the Administration Building at the Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility (340 East White Hills Road)
