ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Manager, Professional Practice, this position serves as a Clinical and Professional Practice Advisor, responsible for translating best practices into the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the Paramedic education and professional development programs. This includes overseeing compulsory course curricula, developing Branch education policies and materials in compliance with legislation and ensuring alignment with departmental strategies, corporate goals, and regulatory requirement.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Collaborates/works with partners and follows the corporate strategic leadership, planning and direction related to this function to ensure alignment with corporate objectives and direction.
  • Ensures Paramedic Services (PS) education programs comply with appropriate Provincial legislation, Ministry of Health (MOH), Standards of Practice, regulations, guidelines, the Central East Prehospital Care Program (CEPCP), and Corporate and Branch policies and guidelines.
  • Designs, develops and delivers mandated and professional development education for paramedics, including onboarding, management training and event coordination.
  • Supports, coordinates and evaluates PS education programs such as preceptorships, internships, student placements, AIV, PCP, ACP training, driver training, paramedic recruitment and onboarding and observer shifts.
  • Works with PS leadership to identify learning needs through CQI, operations and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains accurate education and certification records in compliance with CEPCP, MOH and Regional standards.
  • Develops and monitors education programs to meet legislative, CEPCP and operational requirements, ensuring quality and efficiency.
  • Implements and reviews all PS education and learning related policies, processes and practices and ensures compliance with all relevant legislation and ministry requirements.
  • Develops and implements remediation education programs for staff as required.
  • Coordinates and tracks all PS staff participation in mandatory educational initiatives.
  • Maintenance of eLearning platforms and contracts.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements educational advanced medical and non-medical education and education programs, in consultation with the Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Ambulance and Emergency Care, combined with certification in accordance with the Ambulance Act of Ontario and eligibility for AEMCA in Ontario.
  • Current certification as a Primary Care or Advanced Care Paramedic in the Province of Ontario.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience in a Paramedic Services operational environment, with demonstrated experience in designing and delivering education programs, adult education, clinical instruction or curriculum design and minimum one (1) year of direct supervisory experience.
  • Ontario Class “F” driver’s licence or equivalent in good standing which meets the requirements of the Ambulance Act of Ontario.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) and satisfy the Medical Requirements as set out by the Ontario Ministry of Health (Regulation 257/00 - Ambulance Service Communicable Disease Standards).
  • Knowledge of the Ambulance Act of Ontario, Ministry of Health Basic Life Support Patient Care Standards, Advanced Life Support Patient Care Standards, Regional Base Hospital Program medical directives and policies, applicable sections of the Highway Traffic Act, and other relevant legislation.
  • In-depth knowledge of Base Hospital certification processes and continuing medical education system.
  • Knowledge of applicable Standards, Acts, Regulations, Directives, Policies, Legislation, and operations pertinent to Paramedics
  • Knowledge of Paramedic training programs and of contemporary adult education principles and practices.
