What will you work on?
The Pacemaker Technologist Supervisor is accountable for the administration and supervision of the department. Reporting to the Director Cardiac Services on administrative matters, advises on budgets, workload, labour relations and personnel. Responsible for interpreting and implementing all institutional regulations, policies and procedures as they apply to Cardiology Services.
Performs techniques relating to pacemaker and implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD) testing, lead/device analysis in the operating room (OR) and all pacemaker/ICD related investigations. Provides interpretations, analysis and test/summary reports as required.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

Monitors and evaluates the effective use of all resources and their impact on services.

Participates in and makes recommendations to the Director regarding budgetary requirements. Responsible for monitoring and reporting of expenditures including investigating and justifying variances and demonstrates fiscal accountability.

Responsible for the formulation of technical justification for capital equipment, preparation of specifications, tender summary analysis and equipment purchase recommendations in conjunction with the Manager.

Interviews and provides input into the selection and hiring of employees in consultation with the Manager. Orients and evaluates departmental employees.

Evaluates employee performance including preparation and administration of performance appraisals. Disciplines staff up to the point of termination in consultation with the Manger and Human Resources.

Directs the operation of the department by scheduling and coordinating staff assignments. Ensures adequate staffing levels by preparing staff work schedules, rotations and vacations in accordance with collective agreements and department policy and procedure.

Compiles required organizational information including statistics and reports and submits in a timely manner.

Ensures routine and formalized maintenance programs are carried out on all departmental equipment and on the physical plant. Maintains and controls an inventory of equipment and supplies.

Formulates Pacemaker Clinic administrative and technical objectives, standards and policies and procedures in consultation with the Director (or designate) and departmental staff.

Acts as a resource to department staff, physicians and other health providers in the provision of Pacemaker Clinic/Cardiology Services.

Represents Cardiology Services/Pacemaker Clinic on appropriate internal and external committees or projects.

Maintains good working relationships with department heads, medical staff and other hospital personnel.

Develop, implement and maintains the Quality Management program encompassing Quality Assurance, Risk Management and Utilization Review related to the provision of departmental services.

Ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of an educational program for department staff to address educational needs related to professional practice. Facilitates the development of communication systems for department staff to be informed of educational and research programs offered outside the hospital.

Performs a variety of Pacemaker/Cardiology Technologist duties as required such as: explaining procedures/tests to patients and answering related questions; monitoring patients/pacemakers/ICDs and notifying cardiologist of abnormalities; programming pacemakers/ICDs; analyzing the data, recording relevant data and preparing reports for interpretation by cardiologist; etc.

Completion of a Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists recognized Diploma program in Cardiology Technology and successful completion of a recognized cardiac device management course plus five years’ recent related experience which includes 2 years’ working in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current registration with the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists and eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists (CSCT).
