About Scrawlr
Scrawlr is a company building a software platform and series of products dedicated to enabling alternative forms of communication layered on existing internet content, together with delivering superior monetization flexibility and content ownership for content generators.
We are working on a transformational project that we believe will have a global impact, and we expect our team members to solve complex, unique technical problems daily. Our team members are given a high degree of product ownership, including the latitude to propose and implement approaches that can be divergent from all standard or existing solutions.
We are committed to an environment where we seek and adopt the best possible solution to any problem, evaluating solutions based on merit rather than hierarchy. We are looking for leaders who have the capacity to challenge existing solutions, both from within and outside of the organization, and propose superior alternatives.
Summary
We are seeking a Lead Software Infrastructure Developer to architect, implement, and evolve the core infrastructure powering its consumer-facing cloud applications. This is a high-impact leadership role ideal for engineers who thrive in autonomous environments and are driven by ownership, accountability, and delivering results with minimal oversight. This role combines deep technical execution with system-level thinking and team influence. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver, a systems thinker, and a hands-on leader who can scale infrastructure reliably while enabling development velocity.
What to Expect
- A high-autonomy environment with little day-to-day oversight
- Full ownership over infrastructure and platform engineering responsibilities
- Direct influence over tooling, practices, and team processes
- Accountability for delivering secure, scalable, and cost-effective systems
- Close collaboration with engineering, product, and business stakeholders
- The opportunity to shape and lead Scrawlr’s long-term infrastructure vision
Responsibilities
Your role will include, but will not be limited to:
- Architecting and maintaining infrastructure across AWS and GCP for scale, performance, and cost-efficiency
- Building and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and CircleCI
- Defining and implementing infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform
- Leading cloud security efforts including IAM, network controls, and compliance tooling
- Managing platform services such as OpenVPN, Google Workspace, and Mailgun
- Owning deployment workflows for Chrome Web Store and Google Play Store apps
- Reviewing and writing infrastructure and application code (primarily in PHP, Python, and JavaScript)
- Monitoring system performance, managing cloud spend, and resolving operational issues
- Providing technical direction and mentorship to the DevOps and engineering teams
- Aligning infrastructure priorities with product timelines and business goals
Expected Responsibility Split
- 50% Technical Execution – designing, building, and maintaining infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines, writing and reviewing code, automating deployment processes, and ensuring system reliability and scalability.
- 30% Leadership & Planning – leading and mentoring software infrastructure developers, setting team direction, aligning work with business goals, and collaborating cross-functionally on roadmaps and milestone delivery.
- 20% Administrative & Operational Oversight – managing cloud costs, access control, security tools, internal systems (e.g., Google Workspace, Mailgun), and compliance-related configurations.
Required Skills or Experience
- Over five (5) years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure, or platform engineering
- Proven track record of working independently and delivering in low-supervision environments
- Expertise in CI/CD systems (e.g., GitHub Actions, CircleCI)
- Deep experience with AWS and GCP cloud platforms
- Advanced Terraform and infrastructure-as-code proficiency
- Strong understanding of cloud monitoring, performance, and cost optimization
- Familiarity with VPN tools, especially OpenVPN
- Proficiency in PHP, Python, and JavaScript
- Experience with GitHub repository architecture and access control
- Administration of Google Workspace and Mailgun
- Strong knowledge of cloud security practices and operational compliance
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, influence systems, and drive results
Nice to Have Skills or Experience
- AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer)
- HashiCorp Terraform Associate certification
- Security certifications (CISSP, AWS Security Specialty, Security+)
- Experience with SOC2, ISO 27001, or GDPR compliance
- Contributions to open-source infrastructure or internal platform tooling
