ENGINEERING SUPERVISOR – BRAKE DEVELOPMENT, CORROSION, ELASTOMER LAB
About the role
Stellantis' Brake Development, Corrosion, and Elastomer Laboratories are seeking a highly motivated individual to manage day-to-day laboratory operations supporting chassis and vehicle systems development. This role provides direct supervision of Hourly Bargaining Unit (HBU), Non-Bargaining Unit (NBU), and external contract Purchased Service (PSP) employees, while ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution of testing and work orders in support of global vehicle development programs.
The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for coordinating testing activities across brake development dynamometers, vehicle corrosion teardown and assessment operations, and elastomer component testing laboratories. This position requires close collaboration with releasing engineers, vehicle line teams, and supporting organizations to plan, procure, setup, and execute tests that meet program timing and quality requirements. Oversight of preventative maintenance, equipment repairs, and continuous improvement initiatives is also a core expectation of this role.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise SBU, NBU, and external contract personnel across multiple laboratories
- Plan, prioritize, and assign laboratory workloads to meet vehicle program milestones and development schedules
- Monitor test execution, review data quality, and ensure timely reporting of results and findings
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality standards, including union labor agreements and corporate policies
- Support employee training, certification, onboarding, and performance management for lab personnel
- Coordinate parts, fixtures, specimens, vehicles, and buck logistics required for all laboratory activities
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs), prepare management reports, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Develop and manage preventative maintenance plans, facility improvements, and capital equipment planning
- Champion a strong safety and quality culture through audits, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or related Engineering field
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in automotive testing, validation, laboratory operations, or related engineering environment
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or people management experience
- Experience working in a unionized laboratory or manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of automotive braking systems, corrosion mechanisms, and elastomer-based vehicle components
- Experience managing laboratory facilities, testing equipment, and maintenance programs
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supervising brake dynamometer testing and associated data acquisition systems
- Experience with corrosion testing, vehicle teardowns, and corrosion measurement techniques
- Experience supporting elastomer testing, fixturing, and component validation
- Familiarity with laboratory data acquisition, analysis, and reporting tools
- Knowledge of Stellantis systems and standards (SEW, A109000, Teamcenter, PSAP)
- Capital planning, project management, or continuous improvement experience (Lean / Six Sigma)
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple technical disciplines
