Rare earth elements (REEs) power technologies such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, and advanced electronics. Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) is at the forefront of building the REE industry right here in Saskatchewan and we’re looking for a Shift Manager to be part of operating our Rare Earth Processing Facility.
The role is accountable for the safe, stable, and coordinated operation of the Monazite Processing Unit (MPU), Solvent Extraction Unit (SXU), and Metal Smelting Unit (MSU) during the assigned shift. The Shift Manager will lead an operations team to set priorities, control permits and work coordination, manage abnormal conditions, and ensure strong communication between operations, maintenance, material handling, laboratory, and support teams. This role will require shift work as the facility functions under 24/7 operations.

Accountabilities
Manage shift operations across MPU, SXU, and MSU to ensure safe and stable execution Manage an operations team, including assigning work, setting expectations, providing coaching and feedback, supporting training and contributing to the hiring and performance decisions Coordinate operating teams as plant conditions, maintenance work, and production needs change Lead shift handover, toolbox talks, operating updates, and communication of key risks, constraints, and required actions Manage abnormal conditions, process instability, equipment issues, safety risks, environmental concerns, and emergency response during the shift Authorize and control permits, isolations, and work execution in coordination with maintenance and operations personnel Support commissioning, startup, ramp-up, operator training, and continuous improvement of operating practices Identify, lead, and implement improvements to shift operating practices, work coordination, communication, training, and handover processes to improve safety, stability, reliability, and team performance Maintain accurate shift records and ensure critical information is documented and transferred clearly to the incoming shift
Qualifications
Post-secondary education in process operations, engineering technology, chemistry, power engineering, industrial operations, or a related discipline A minimum of 5 years of relevant operational experience including experience supervising or manager teams in an industrial, chemical, mining, metallurgical, utilities, or equivalent process environment. A combination of education and experience may be considered Experience coordinating shift priorities, maintenance activities, permits, isolations, and shift handover Power Engineering certification or experience supervising boiler, steam, or utility systems is considered an asset Experience in hydrometallurgy, solvent extraction, rare earth processing, metal production, chemical processing, mining processing, or utilities is an asset Commissioning, startup, ramp-up, or operational readiness experience is an asset
Skills
Strong safety leadership and proven ability to manage risk in a hazardous operating environment Ability to lead teams during abnormal situations, changing priorities, and high-pressure conditions Strong communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and accountability skills
The chosen candidate will also be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.
This position is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
