About the role
Island Health has an opportunity for a full-time Anesthesiologist to join a team of five colleagues in a busy anesthesia practice at the Cowichan District Hospital. This position is only for applicants of the UBC Specialists Residency Re-Entry program for Anesthesiology in the 2024 cohort, with a ROS requirement starting in 2027.
The Cowichan District Hospital, a 134-bed acute care facility, enjoys an exceptionally collegial atmosphere amongst the general and specialty medical staff. Many local FPs continue to maintain full-service practices and provide inpatient care. Maternity primary care is provided by the Cowichan Maternity Clinic physician, as well as a dedicated group of midwives. Local specialist services include Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Radiology; surgical services include General and Orthopedic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, and Plastic Surgery. Our busy ER is served by dedicated ERPs.
The new Cowichan District Hospital is expected to be completed in 2027 and
will bring added inpatient capacity in excess of 200 beds, as well as expanded
OR and ICU capacity. We plan for state-of-the-art equipment and design. Our
anticipated need for Anesthesiology will be 7 FTE as we transfer to the new
facility.
Members are affiliated with the University of British Columbia’s Island
Medical Program and provide teaching to medical students and residents.
