Huronia Historical Parks (HHP), Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Gaming is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong leadership, front-line operational delivery, and strategic planning capacity to express their interest for the role of Program Supervisor for Discovery Harbour Operations.

A Program Supervisor at HHP plays a crucial role in overseeing staff, including on-call and contract workers, at each site who are responsible for the design and execution of all visitor facing programs and events, including educational and specialized programs, contractor delivered programs and managing multiple special events annually. The supervisor manages up to 40 staff members per site, depending on seasonal needs. The mission of Huronia Historical Parks is to act as stewards of heritage, managing significant assets, and delivering on Ministry business objectives. HHP consists of visitor-focused organizations with education-based programming, special events, restaurants, and rental spaces among many other heritage assets. Essential skills for this role include strong business acumen, leadership, community partnership development, HR and performance management, and recruitment.

Leadership is about impact, and in this role, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful one. You will:

Ensure consistent, high-quality visitor experiences by coordinating guest services, planning programs such as workshops, events, group tours, and on-site coverage during peak periods, including weekends. Maintain accurate financial and operational records by reviewing and supporting retail activity reconciliation. Enable smooth program delivery by ensuring materials and supplies are available when needed. Support a safe and responsive environment by responding to emergencies and prioritizing tasks effectively. Maintain safe, functional visitor spaces by identifying and addressing maintenance needs in a timely manner.

Please note: This dynamic frontline role thrives on your physical presence at the site. The Program Supervisor is expected to be on-site five days a week. Huronia Historical Parks sites are open seven days per week during peak season and sporadically throughout the off season. The role also requires weekend, evening, and night work based on operational needs. There is also travel to various locations and other HHP sites in the area.

Meet your New Team

You will join Discovery Harbour Operations, a close-knit team of 12 working in a collaborative and adaptable environment that responds to changing visitor needs. The team includes both seasoned staff and newer team members, with a range of skills and work experiences. Roles span program planning, maintenance, interpretation, events, and merchandising, along with summer students, all working together to deliver coordinated events and services.

As Program Supervisor, you create opportunities for team members at all experience levels to contribute, build skills, and play a meaningful role in connecting people to Ontario's history.

What you bring to the team

Leadership and People Management: Leadership Experience: Established experience leading people and teams, with clear accountability for results, team development, and performance. Financial and Human Resource Management: Experience managing budgets and human resources, including labour relations and policy compliance. Political Acuity: Strong judgment and political acuity to provide authoritative advice and guidance to senior management.

Program Management: Program Design and Delivery: Demonstrated ability to design and implement events and tours that meet educational standards for diverse audiences. Research and Content Development: Proven capacity to use historical research to develop accurate and engaging workshops and events. Procurement and Resource Coordination: Experience applying procurement and inventory practices to support service delivery. Operational Readiness and Maintenance Awareness: Ability to identify maintenance needs and respond to support safe, reliable operations.

Communication and Stakeholder Management: Adaptive Communication: Ability to tailor communication to different roles and experience levels across the team to enhance clarity and shared understanding. Crisis Communication: Ability to manage emergency situations and communicate clearly under pressure. Stakeholder Relationship Management and Representation: Builds partnerships with volunteers, service providers, and government partners, and represents the organization in community and inter-ministry forums.
