The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.
Job Information
The Inmate Administration Clerk is based out of the South Mackenzie Correctional Centre and is located in Hay River, NT. This position provides administrative services to SMCC, delivers the canteen services for the inmates of SMCC and maintains all financial transactions recorded to inmate trust accounts via a computerized accounting system. This position also provides clerical duties as required by the Finance Administration Officer.
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically required for the position are:
- Proven written, verbal and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to be self directed, problem solve independently, prioritize own work load, meet deadlines and manage several tasks at once;
- Experience and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP)
- Ability to work in a cross cultural setting
Typically attained by.
- Two or more years work experience in Administration or Finance
- Grade 12, Business Diploma or better
- Completion of a recognized Bookkeeping/Accounting course
- A class 5 drivers license is required
Equivalencies may include
Business Administration/Commerce Degree and 1 year of Finance or Administrative Experience
