Job Summary Do you thrive on the technical intricacies of compositing, tool development, and creative workflow optimization? We're looking for a Technical Compositor who can collaborate closely with the Compositing Department to develop and maintain design-specific tools and gizmos. You'll be instrumental in actively supporting creative design solutions and workflow improvements, utilizing Python and Blink scripts to optimize compositing setups based on specific design briefs, and ensuring all technical issues are resolved in a production-friendly manner. You'll also provide front-line support and training, guaranteeing the smooth and efficient delivery of creatively approved shots.

What You’ll Do

  • Create verifiable, effective, and reusable tools using best software development practices.
  • Develop, maintain, and update design-specific tools and gizmos, ensuring they meet production demands and departmental standards.
  • Maintain a wide range of workflows and scripts, utilizing Python and Blink scripts for technical support and development.
  • Actively support creative design solutions and continuous workflow improvements.
  • Work closely with Comp Supervisor to determine the best possible technical and creative approaches for production.
  • Optimize compositing setups to align with specific creative design briefs.
  • Provide specialized support for design tools, gizmos, and creative workflows across the department.
  • Provide front-line technical support to artists, troubleshooting assets and shots, and assisting with general technical problems.
  • Create and communicate documentation for all developed tools and provide necessary training to artists.
  • Perform quality control on all work before submission, ensuring technical specifications are met and peer review notes are addressed.
  • Manage deadlines effectively, advising the project team promptly if any delays are expected.

What You’ll Need

  • Experience in a similar position, within the VFX or Animation industries
  • Experience in Compositing in a technical capacity
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Visualization, Animation or other related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Enthusiastic about creating new tools and blink script
  • Experience with Python script
  • Good knowledge of Nuke
  • Expertise in 2D and 3D math for compositing: Matrix math (transformations, projections, camera/geometry manipulation)
  • Vector math (normals, cross/dot products, etc.)
  • Strong grasp of image processing/filter algorithms: Blur, sharpen, denoise, edge detection, convolution kernels
  • Good understanding of Linux operating system
  • Strong skills in debugging and development tests
  • Able to communicate solutions to issues in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent sense of prioritization and respect of deadlines

This role is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Hybrid Role (Minimum of 3 days a week in the office). We rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, location, skills, and experience. The overall market range for this role is typically $109K - $148K CAD. This reflects total compensation; we do not have stock options.
