Manager, Risk Management

How does the role impact the organization?

The Manager, Risk Management is responsible for implementing the Raymond James Enterprise Risk Framework in Canada, developing reports, drafting memos for executive reporting, delivering risk related training and acting as the liaison to internal business units to oversee their risk management practices. This role requires a proactive, client-focused approach, with a particular emphasis on building and maintaining strong and trusted relationships with related partners through effective communication and partnership, while also being able to influence risk-taking activities.

What will your role be responsible for?

  • Significantly contribute to monitoring and executing the Enterprise Risk Management program for the Raymond James Canadian business; this includes Wealth Management, Investment Banking, Trading, Equity Capital Markets, Insurance, Financial Planning and Trust among others.
  • Lead analysis of the organization’s risk profile, its severity and develop mitigants in conjunction with the businesses.
  • Manage the risk assessment process with business units in a collaborative approach, including development of controls.
  • Facilitate discussions on the level of risk the company is willing to incur by monitoring the risks against the established risk appetite statements / metrics.
  • Draft succinct risk memo for senior leadership and board.
  • Develop and maintain risk reporting templates using Microsoft Office and other software tools, tailored to relevant audiences.
  • Collect risk information and prepare succinct reports for leadership and various governance committees on the enterprise and function-specific risk profile and risk management
  • Work closely with the business units, monitor and manage the establishment of risk appetite limits, tolerances and risk indicators.
  • Develop and deliver risk education and awareness programs to instill a risk culture.
  • Establish strong relationships throughout the firm and provide guidance on risk related issues and enterprise risk management.
  • Represent Risk in various interdepartmental meetings and provide Risk related guidance including identifying applicable risks and how to manage them.
  • Perform a risk evaluation of events and supporting program enhancement.
  • Understand and have a good working knowledge of business continuity and third-party risks.
  • Work with IT security, second line and other functions to coordinate a comprehensive risk analysis and plan.
  • Support documentation of the firm wide risk management program and related polices and procedures and update them regularly.

Specific Tasks:

Request input on a variety of reports, metrics, questionnaires, updates on actions plans etc., to build your reporting. Here, the relationship you build with business partners is critical to ensure timely delivery and quality. Your ability to diplomatically challenge the information received and provide guidance are also critical.

What do we expect from you?

To qualify for this opportunity you possess:

  • A degree in business, finance or technology with a focus in risk management, is required;
  • 7+ years of experience in risk management roles in a regulated complex, institutional financial services, asset management or similar environment;
  • Clear, concise communicator (written and oral) capable of supporting senior management decision-making;
  • Experience in conducting Risk and Control Self-Assessments, Control reviews or audits and other Operational Risk assessments;
  • Strong understanding of technology, cyber and data risk drivers and related control frameworks;
  • Expert in data visualization and reporting using Microsoft Office and other online / web-based tools;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of risk management program management;
  • Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills to identify and resolve diverse, complex and ambiguous issues in a timely and practical manner;
  • Very strong interpersonal skills including resolving differences, negotiation, and the ability to work well under pressure;
  • Able to build relationships through respect and authenticity, and to collaborate with a diverse network of business partners / internal stakeholders.
  • Established professional values including sound judgment, integrity, going the extra mile for colleagues, and being tenaciously driven to achieve results; and
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • This role requires three days per week in office

Asset Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications and /or SQL is an asset
  • Risk Management certification or working towards one
  • Bilingual (English and French).

Salary Range:$105,000-120,000 annually, in addition to competitive performance bonuses/incentives.

Actual compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, internal equity, and other job requirements.
