Supervisor, Custodial & Housekeeping Services
About the role
Under general direction of the Manager, Client Services, the Supervisor is responsible for the organization and delivery of custodial and housekeeping services for all of the University facilities. The Supervisor ensures that the requirements are maintained in accordance with applicable department and statutory codes, regulations and standards, and for promoting customer service, health and safety of the environment and professional image presented by the University.
The Supervisor provides effective leadership, professionalism, coordination implementation and evaluation of a collaborative service delivery model, demonstrates the ability to create a culture of excellence through the setting of high standards for themselves and for the team. The Supervisor actively uses sound human resources management principles, communicates effectively, promotes positive relationships, shows flexibility and demonstrates sound problem-solving skills.
The Supervisor directs the activities, work performance and schedules of the custodial and housekeeping staff, provides technical information and support to management regarding operational issues, standards and safety while suggesting potential improvements. The Supervisor provides cost estimates, recommends the acquisition of supplies, materials and equipment; researches new methods, techniques and equipment and recommends their application and stores supplies. The Supervisor will participate actively in development of tasks, routines and quality audits to ensure the consistent delivery of services. The incumbent must be able to give clear training and lead appropriate cleaning processes and practices for the team.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 graduation from a secondary school, or equivalent.
- Minimum of five (5) years current supervisory experience in a unionized environment, institutional environment.
- Management Skills for Supervisors Certificate or equivalent formal supervisory training required
- Must have excellent and current knowledge of custodial equipment, chemicals and cleaning practices and processes
- Proven ability to organize, assign, distribute and check work of the Custodial and Housekeeping staff
- Must have and demonstrate effective communication skills both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence
- Must have organizational skills, able to multi-task, be self-motivated and able to work independently to meet deadlines.
- Experience and knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and the use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license in the province of BC.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to provide effective leadership, plan and prioritize work schedules and assignments for various service unit staff.
- Proven ability to direct and lead a custodial team by fostering a respectful positive solution-based culture
- Knowledge of Worksafe BC requirements and associated provincial regulations.
- Knowledge and ability to use equipment, materials and techniques related to the duties.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and by email.
- Ability to use MS Word and Excel.
Additional Information
This is regular full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate must have the ability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends. The shift schedule is yet to be determined. The day shift is 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and the evening shift is 4:00 pm to 12:00 am.
