The School of Health and Human Performance in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Health invites applications from qualified candidates for a one-year limited-term faculty position at the Instructor rank commencing August 1, 2026.

The Faculty of Health is one of the largest Faculties at Dalhousie, comprised of eight schools, one college and one program, more than 200 faculty members, 80 staff members, and approximately 3,000 students. The School of Health and Human Performance’s vision is “advancing knowledge towards sustainable health, wellness, and performance”. The School offers programs leading to bachelor’s and master’s Degrees in Kinesiology, Health Promotion, Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, and Recreation Management.

The primary duties of this position include teaching five courses in the fall and winter terms such as LEIS 3426 (Assessment, Planning and Documentation in TR Service Delivery), LEIS 4365 (Administrative Concepts in TR). In addition, they will be required to teach/supervise students on internship placements (LEIS 4598 for Fall and Winter semester) as well as prepare and coordinate internships for students anticipating going on placements in future semesters.

In addition, the person will assist in compiling data for the annual report for CARTE Accreditation. It is also expected that the successful candidate will participate in Division and School level meetings. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience with experiential learning and a demonstrated commitment to applying principles of EDIA in course development, teaching approaches, and workplace interactions.

The successful candidate will hold at least a master’s degree in therapeutic recreation, recreation and leisure studies, or related discipline with certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

Candidates must demonstrate evidence of strong teaching, organizational, and effective interpersonal and communication skills. It is expected that the successful candidate will serve on the Recreation/Leisure Studies Division and School committees.
