About the role
Hiring preference will be provided to those who identify as Yukon First Nation or Indigenous. The First Nation School Board (FNSB) was established in February 2022. Our main office is located in Whitehorse, Yukon, on the territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. FNSB serves and works in partnership with Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation, Liard First Nation, Ross River Dena Council, Champagne and Aishihik First Nation, White River First Nation, Ta'an Kwäch'än Council, Kwanlin Dün First Nation, Selkirk First Nation, Carcross/Tagish First Nation, and Kluane First Nation for the schools and Learners on their territories.
Our approach to instruction, programming, and operations promotes reconciliation by being grounding in Yukon First Nations values of student-centered, strengths-based, and community-led. The Literacy Coach plays a vital role in advancing the strategic priorities of the First Nation School Board (FNSB) by strengthening literacy instruction and fostering equitable learning opportunities for all students. Grounded in FNSB's circular model and guided by Yukon First Nation Ways, this role is built on the understanding that literacy development is enhanced through strong relationships, culturally responsive practices, and meaningful collaboration with educators, school leaders, local First Nations, families, and community partners. The Literacy Coach works alongside educators to build instructional capacity, support evidence-informed literacy practices, and create inclusive learning environments that honour local First Nations languages, cultures, and ways of knowing.
Through coaching, mentoring, professional learning, and collaborative planning, the Literacy Coach supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of literacy programming across FNSB schools. The role provides instructional leadership by modeling effective practices, facilitating the use of assessment to inform instruction, developing and sharing high-quality resources, and supporting school-based literacy initiatives that reflect each community's unique educational aspirations. By fostering continuous improvement, promoting culturally relevant literacy practices, and strengthening educator confidence and competence, the Literacy Coach contributes to improved student outcomes and the realization of FNSB's vision for learner success and educational excellence.

About First Nation School Board
The FNSB was established in February 2022, through a series of school-attendance area referenda, enabling Yukon First Nations to assume shared authority with Government of Yukon in the delivery of public-school education in the territory. Board-run schools continue to follow the BC Curriculum, but tailor the programming, lesson delivery and assessment methodology to reflect Yukon First Nations worldviews.
These schools are for all Yukon students and promote reconciliation by enhancing a Yukon First Nations model that puts the student first, through a strengths-based, community-centered approach.
