Description of the Position

The Associate Director, Enterprise Architecture is accountable for establishing and enforcing enterprise architecture standards and design practices that ensure technology solutions across the Foundation are scalable, secure, interoperable, and aligned with long-term strategy. The role enables disciplined solution design, reduces duplication and technical debt, and embeds automation, reuse, and sustainability into all major technology decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Architecture Governance and Standards Leadership

  • Establishes, maintains, and enforces enterprise architecture principles, standards, and reference patterns across applications, data, integration, and technology domains.

  • Reviews solution proposals to ensure alignment with approved patterns, prevents non-standard implementations, and drives reduction of duplication, technical debt, and point-to-point integrations across the Foundation.

Solution Design Oversight and Architectural Assurance

  • Provides architectural review and approval for new systems, integrations, and significant platform changes.

  • Translates business and technical requirements into scalable, secure, and sustainable solution designs. Documents architecture decisions and ensures traceability through repositories and governance processes.

Automation, Re-use, and Platform Simplification

  • Identifies architectural opportunities to embed automation, standardization, and reuse into system design.

  • Eliminates manual processes, reduces unnecessary custom development, and promotes modern integration and cloud-native patterns that improve maintainability, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Cross-Squad Architectural Enablement

  • Partners with Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, CRM, Digital, Marketing Technology, and Data Integration squads to ensure cohesive end-to-end architecture.

  • Provides architectural direction to enterprise programs and modernization initiatives to ensure interoperability and alignment with enterprise standards.

Governance, Risk and Compliance Oversight

  • Ensures architectural decisions comply with enterprise security, privacy, data governance, and regulatory requirements.

  • Identifies architectural risks and systemic design weaknesses and escalates mitigation strategies to the Director as required.

Architectural Capability Development and Leadership

  • Mentors architects and senior technical resources, strengthens enterprise architecture practices, and promotes consistent documentation, design discipline, and enterprise-wide adoption of approved standards and patterns.

Qualifications

While we know that for any job posting no one candidate will possess the qualifications being sought in equal measure, below is an outline of the qualifications we believe are important for a candidate to bring to the position or for the successful candidate to develop while in the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree is an asset.

  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, or technology design within complex organizations.

  • Demonstrated experience establishing and enforcing enterprise architecture standards and governance.

  • Strong understanding of cloud architectures, integration patterns, data platforms, and modern application ecosystems.

  • Experience enabling automation, platform modernization, and scalable technology solutions.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional relationships and influence at all levels of the organization

Total Compensation Package

Expected Hiring Salary Range:$99, 297.00 – $124,121. 00; with the ability to progress to a maximum of $142,739.00. To ensure fair and equitable pay at SickKids Foundation, placement on the salary range will be based on your years of experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the Associate Director, Enterprise Architecture
