THE OPPORTUNITY
Ambipar is currently seeking an Intermediate Hydrogeologist based out of Calgary, AB. The Intermediate Hydrogeologist performs duties in accordance with Ambipar’s standard operating procedures, performance objectives, applicable health and safety regulations, and professional codes of conduct. This role involves a mix of technical report preparation, regulatory submissions, and mentoring of junior staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES AT HAND / WHAT YOUR DAYS WILL CONSIST OF

Create Scopes of Work to align with project requirements and support risk-based assessment goals.

Review and interpret historical reports and site-specific data to develop comprehensive project overviews and Conceptual Site Models.

Evaluate project goals, identify data gaps, and propose strategies to reach objectives.
-
Review laboratory analytical results to determine strategies for progressing sites toward regulatory closure.
-
Prepare Phase 2 ESA reports, remediation reports, soil and groundwater reports, and regulatory variance letter requests.
-
Prepare Remedial Action Plan (RAP) reports for complex contaminated sites.
-
Draft regulatory submissions (e.g., Records of Site Condition) for review by Senior Technical Advisor.
-
Perform hydrogeological calculations, prepare geological cross-sections, and write hydrogeology and contaminant hydrogeology reports.
-
Submit draft technical reports for review and implement edits efficiently.
-
Conduct complex field work, including contaminant and physical hydrogeology (e.g., slug and pump tests).
-
Analyze hydrogeological test data using industry-standard software (e.g., AQTESOLV).
-
Provide training and mentorship to staff on hydrogeology topics as required.
-
Serve as a technical subject matter expert in communications with clients and regulators.
-
Promote teamwork and effective collaboration across teams.
-
Stay current with environmental legislation and regulatory updates.
-
Contribute to Ambipar’s quality control program, ensuring accuracy and consistency in data collection, interpretation, and reporting.

Support the development and mentorship of Environmental Consultants and Project Managers.
-
Attend technical seminars, conferences, and industry events as a representative of Ambipar.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering or Geology.
-
Professional designation or ability to obtain designation with APEGA; designation with APEGS and/or EGBC considered an asset.

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in groundwater assessment and remediation projects (for Intermediate level).
-
Strong understanding of hydrogeological principles (groundwater flow, hydraulic gradients, conductivity testing, contaminant migration, surface water-groundwater interactions).

Experience with standard field operations and accepted industry practices.
