The Office of the General Counsel and Vice-President (People & Culture) is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Director, Protected Disclosure & Research Integrity (PDRI).
The Director, Protected Disclosure & Research Integrity (PDRI), serves as a senior leader within the Office of the General Counsel and Vice-President (People & Culture). Reporting directly to the General Counsel and Vice-President (People & Culture), with a matrix reporting line to the Associate Vice-President (People & Culture), the Director is responsible for guiding and managing the work of the PDRI team, including oversight of workplace investigations. In this capacity, the Director provides strategic leadership, expert consultation, and support for investigations and alternative resolution measures across the university. This includes supervising complex cases.
This position provides expert counsel to the university community and works collaboratively with stakeholders. In addition, the Director also leads key strategic initiatives for the team including the development of institutional policies, data-driven analytics and the implementation of wrap-around support services.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Lead the Workplace Investigations team and support the PDRI advisor(s) by recommending best practices, coordinating workflow and workloads, and reviewing work to ensure consistency of practices.
- Managerial discretion for recruitment, hiring, performance management, and discipline up to and including termination.
- Act as a coach and mentor in the training and development of the team; ensuring staff develop collegial, positive, high trust working relationships with each other and other key stakeholders both internal and external.
- Represent the team to internal and external stakeholders when resolving service issues. This includes balancing service delivery capabilities with client expectations.
- Develop short and long-term goals and strategies to minimize risk and enhance institutional reputation.
- Lead and implement program changes across the university, including education and communication initiatives.
- Deliver trusted expert guidance, consultation, education, and support to both the core team and the broader People and Culture Human Resources group, including staff and senior leadership, on all matters related to workplace investigations.
- Foster and maintain positive and effective relationships with the staff groups and union officials that reflects the university commitment to a positive, interest-based, and collaborative environment.
- Work through complex issues with challenging interpersonal interactions with composure and diplomacy.
- Collaborate with related departments to ensure best practices in workplace investigations are followed.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Law degree preferred, with experience advising in workplace investigations or administrative proceedings; however, degrees in human resources or industrial relations will be considered if the candidate has substantial investigations experience
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
- Skilled in de-escalation techniques and fostering collaborative environments.
- Capable of identifying root causes of conflict and implementing proactive solutions.
- Experience facilitating difficult conversations with professionalism and empathy.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including displaying sound judgement, tact and diplomacy in interactions with various internal and external stakeholders including the ability to foster strong relationships with faculty and staff representative unions and associations.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and implementation
- In-depth knowledge of administrative law, procedural fairness principles and workplace investigation best practices
- Exceptional verbal and written skills
- Demonstrated group facilitation skills, and ability to help groups reach a consensus
- Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision
