About the role
Mi’KMA’KI-Municipal GP (MMGP) , a member of the Municipal Group of Companies is seeking qualified Excavator Operators to support construction of renewable energy projects across Nova Scotia, This position would be based out of Yarmouth, NS. MMGP through membership in the Municipal Group, is firmly embedded in the construction industry of Eastern Canada and as an organization we have been operating in the region for well over 50 years. As part of Nova Scotia’s transition to renewable energy, MMLP has been awarded a variety of projects in the region to support large scale wind farm development. Our work typically includes a variety of civil construction tasks including road building, water crossings, cast-in-place concrete, pre-cast concrete installation, and various other earthworks.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Excavator Operator is responsible for backfilling, digging, spreading gravel, trenching, loading trucks in a safe and effective manner. The Excavator Operator is also responsible for inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining the equipment and performing repairs as required.
As the team member responsible for material/logistics management you will:
Backfilling, digging, gravel spreading, trenching, and loading trucks
Operating heavy equipment to lift and move bulk materials at the worksite
Responsible for understanding issues involving ground disturbance
Operating equipment and attachments in a smooth and safe manner
Perform and document daily safety and maintenance checks
Advise the Supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
Be aware of surroundings at all times
Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task
Protect and promote the interest of this company in all matters and to take actions as required to satisfy such responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
Mandatory requirement – applicants must have the following core competency:
Excavator operator (Cat 315, 326, 349) as evidenced by a minimum of 8 years of experience in applications requiring fine grade work and finishing
Applicants with two or more of the following secondary competencies will be considered a asset:
Experience operating -off highway trucks, boom truck and or loader would also be considered asset.
Must be well versed in construction site protocols, rules and codes of conduct
