About the role

We are looking for a UAS Technician that will work primarily from Halifax NS and is also flexible to travel to our customer locations in Canada, United States or around the world, as necessary.

The Role:
As a UAS Technician with MDA Space, you will support the delivery and sustainment of a fleet of Schiebel S-100 CAMCOPTER Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS, also referred to as Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS)) and its payloads to support the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) domestic and international operations. You will be part of a team assembling, testing and maintaining a fleet of UAS. This role could require travel to the OEM’s facilities for training and to the customer’s facilities to provide support as a Field Service Representative (FSR).

Job Responsibilities:
As a UAS Technician you may have a wide range of responsibilities that include:

  • Assembling, testing, and maintaining complex UAS by carefully following OEM supplied documentation;
  • Commissioning and troubleshooting UAS and associated equipment at customer sites;
  • Assist in pre- and post-flight activities related to UAS operations;
  • Have a full understanding and experience of technical airworthiness and Safety Management System disciplines;
  • Be an active participant in the MDA Space UAV Services Safety Management System;
  • Competently execute maintenance and work activities within regulatory Health & Safety and technical airworthiness regulations;
  • Competently perform UAS Maintenance Certification and Release activities;
  • Competently manage the UAS software and hardware configurations;
  • Competently use maintenance manuals as per the formal training program;
  • Assume responsibilities for sustainment of the assembly and maintenance infrastructure:

o Manage tools, test equipment, ground support equipment and applicable calibration requirements at company and customer sites;
o Manage maintenance publications and forms templates;
o Assist with maintenance of company facilities at customer sites.

  • Perform Inventory Management & Logistics activities:

o Manage a stock of UAS parts at company facilities;
o Perform online inventory management system transactions;
o Perform receiving inspection of parts;
o Raise repair and shipping documentation for parts leaving the company facilities;
o Perform routine inventory stock checks and audits.

  • Competently produce and support the production of technical documentation.

Job Required Experience:

  • Successful completion of an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer course at a Transport Canada approved training organization or other civilian or military equivalent.
  • S-100 Maintenance Level 3 Technician Qualification highly desirable.
  • Manned aircraft maintenance experience highly desirable, UAS experience an asset.
  • Previous military/civilian operational experience and deployed experience an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and written.

Comments/Special Considerations:

  • Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the Secret level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
