Position Summary:

The Wheel Loader Operator / Site Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the waste transfer station while operating heavy equipment approximately 50% of the time. The role ensures site safety, operational efficiency, and compliance while managing a small team of site staff. The Supervisor may also assist at other nearby sites, cover the scale house as needed, and be available for rotating weekends and on-call duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily transfer station operations, including waste intake, processing, and site logistics

  • Manage and schedule a team of site employees (initially a small crew of 2–3 staff)

  • Ensure compliance with operational procedures, environmental policies, and health & safety standards

  • Provide support to the scale house during breaks, absences, or emergencies

  • Assist with shift planning and team coordination

  • Operate wheel loaders (Cat or Komatsu, 20–22 ton) and other heavy equipment as needed

  • Perform daily inspections and basic preventive maintenance on equipment

  • Assist with site clean-up, material handling, and other equipment-related tasks

  • Enforce company safety standards and ensure staff compliance with legislation and site protocols

  • Handle regulated materials (e.g., asbestos) safely and according to policy

  • Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site inspections

  • Monitor incoming materials for contamination

  • Ensure proper sorting and handling of construction and demolition waste (C&D) and mixed waste

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory or lead hand experience in waste, construction, or similar operations
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment, preferably wheel loaders
  • Valid G-class driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and scale software (TRUX or similar)
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and occupational health & safety standards

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be available for rotating weekends and occasional after-hours on-call support
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
