A Day in the Life: The position is responsible for managing railcar programming and the operational execution of all rail services to ensure sales commitments are met while maximizing country and terminal assets. The incumbent manages the Rail Logistics Group’s relationships with country operations and North American railways to maximize weekly car allocation entitlements and shipping potential. What You’ll Be Doing: Assign work to Logistics Coordinators and ensure rail activities meet industry timelines. Manage weekly car allocation and maximize railcar utilization. Oversee advance booking positions and associated risk. Negotiate service requirements with railways to optimize railcar orders. Coordinate facility accessibility and align transportation strategies with sales demand. Communicate service requirements and resolve rail service issues. Transportation Optimization & Incentive Management Manage car incentive programs and maximize unit train opportunities. Oversee execution and tracking of incentive allocations. Optimize rail capacity to improve logistics performance. Manage annual budgets for Rail Operations and support broader planning processes. Ensure alignment between operational plans and financial targets. Track shipping metrics (volumes, utilization, service levels). Prepare performance reports and provide monthly insights to support continuous improvement. Skills & Experience Requirements: Post-secondary education is an asset. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in grain transportation and inventory management. Equivalent combinations of education and related experience will be considered. Demonstrated knowledge of the grain industry, including rail logistics, transportation requirements, and supply chain processes. Working knowledge of grain marketing and country elevator operations to support alignment between transportation planning and sales commitments. Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and mitigate risk. Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with railways and external stakeholders, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and listening), with the ability to convey complex information clearly. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make timely decisions in a fast-paced environment. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and experience with database/reporting systems in a Windows-based environment.
