The Opportunity
The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC), the national voice of Canada’s Ukrainian community, seeks a nationally respected and strategically minded executive to serve as Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer.
This is a senior leadership role at the intersection of public policy, national advocacy, and philanthropic growth. The successful candidate will lead a mission-driven organization representing one of Canada’s most engaged ethnocultural communities during a critical period of geopolitical importance.
The Executive Director & CEO will be responsible for strengthening UCC’s policy influence in Ottawa while building a sustainable, modern national fundraising engine to support long-term advocacy and community impact.
This role requires an executive who is equally comfortable in government relations and donor cultivation — a strategic leader who can operate at the Cabinet level while also building institutional capacity and revenue growth.
Strategic Priorities (First 3 Years)
- Significantly grow and diversify national fundraising revenue
- Strengthen UCC’s policy positioning and influence within the Government of Canada
- Elevate UCC’s national profile as the leading Ukrainian Canadian advocacy organization
- Enhance operational effectiveness across a distributed national structure
- Support the work of the UCC National Foundation
Key Responsibilities
National Policy & Government Relations Leadership
- Lead development and execution of UCC’s public policy strategy
- Serve as the organization’s primary spokesperson
- Represent UCC in high-level meetings with federal officials, diplomats, and national stakeholders
- Prepare policy briefs, position papers, and advocacy strategies
- Coordinate advocacy efforts with volunteer leadership and provincial councils
- Monitor federal policy developments and proactively position UCC within key files
National Fundraising & Revenue Growth
- Develop and execute a national fundraising strategy aligned with advocacy priorities
- Build and steward major donor relationships across Canada
- Expand revenue streams beyond traditional community sources
- Oversee major gift cultivation, corporate sponsorships, grants, and digital campaigns
- Ensure full compliance with CRA regulations and governance best practices
- Provide strategic guidance to the UCC Charitable & Educational Trust and National Foundation
- Organizational & Executive Leadership
- Lead a team of 9 staff and 3–5 contractors within a ~$2M operating environment
- Translate Board strategy into operational execution
- Strengthen internal systems, performance accountability, and cross-functional coordination
- Oversee program and project development and execution
- Support and advise the Board of Directors and national committees
- Ensure disciplined financial management and resource stewardship
- Foster a high-performance, mission-driven organizational culture
