The Wealth Advisor delivers comprehensive financial planning and insurance-inclusive investment advisory services to Sunrise Credit Union members. Reporting to the Director, Sunrise Wealth Management, this role builds long-term relationships with members by providing objective, personalized financial advice that aligns with their goals, values, and life stages. The Wealth Advisor helps members achieve financial well-being through effective planning, portfolio management, and integration of investment, insurance, and retirement solutions. This role represents a senior advisory position responsible for more complex planning needs, higher-value portfolios, and advanced wealth strategies. The role contributes directly to the Credit Union’s mission of empowering members’ financial success while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities & Duties Member Financial Planning & Advisory
- Provide personalized financial advice and comprehensive wealth management solutions tailored to member goals.
- Conduct detailed financial assessments to understand members’ short- and long-term objectives.
- Develop, implement, and review customized financial plans addressing investments, insurance, retirement, education, estate planning and preservation.
- Provide guidance on asset allocation, risk management, succession planning, insurance solutions, and investment diversification strategies.
- Ensure all advice and recommendations comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Relationship Management & Member Experience
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with members through consistent communication, follow-up, and support.
- Serve as a senior advisor supporting members with complex wealth and planning needs.
- Proactively identify opportunities to deepen relationships by introducing relevant financial solutions or referrals (e.g., lending, insurance, or business services).
- Partner with branches and Financial Advisors to ensure smooth transitions as members’ financial needs evolve.
- Champion cooperative values through member-focused advice and service.
Investment Management & Portfolio Oversight
- Analyze member portfolios to ensure diversification, performance, and alignment with goals and risk tolerance.
- Execute trades and investment transactions in accordance with regulatory and client mandates.
- Monitor and review portfolio performance, providing periodic updates and recommendations to members.
- Ensure all documentation, disclosures, and client records meet compliance standards.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial markets, products, and investment trends.
Member Education & Financial Literacy
- Deliver advanced financial education to members related to wealth accumulation, retirement readiness, and legacy planning.
- Participate in seminars, workshops, and member education events promoting financial literacy.
- Support member understanding of complex financial and insurance strategies through clear, professional communication.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Maintain active licensing and adhere to all regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with KYC (Know Your Client), AML, privacy, and conflict-of-interest policies.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of member interactions and transactions.
- Participate in audits, reviews, and continuing education to maintain compliance readiness.
Collaboration & Team Support
- Partner with other Wealth Advisors, Financial Advisors and branch teams to share insights, leads, and best practices.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Brand teams to promote wealth management services and community presence.
- Support the Director, Sunrise Wealth Management with initiatives related to product development, training, and strategic growth.
- Provide mentorship and informal guidance to Financial Advisors as they develop advisory capability and progress along the wealth advisory career path.
Other Duties
- Participate in community and member education events promoting financial literacy.
- Contribute to department projects and initiatives assigned.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through ongoing education and training.
Education & Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in wealth management, financial planning, or investment advisory roles.
- Valid IFC Mutual Fund licensing, Canadian Securities Course (CSC), and life insurance licenses required.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of financial markets, investment products, and portfolio construction.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver professional, ethical, and compliant financial advice.
Preferred
- Completion of or active pursuit of a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Personal Financial Planner (PFP), or Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation.
- Experience in a credit union, cooperative, or community-based financial institution.
- Strong understanding of retirement, estate, and tax-efficient planning strategies including farm succession planning.
- Proficiency with financial planning software and CRM systems.
